Yup. And dopes like Dennis and Callahan make this into a "story" during the middle of a disastrous season. I don't see how creating conflict and debate over Lackey's contract now will help the Sox. Just the opposite. This type of thing gets blown out of proportion too often in the Boston media when the emphasis should be on fixing the problems of the current team, not creating new ones.

Cherington is saying he expects Lackey to honor the existing contract.

 

Oh I fully expect Lackey to do so - he ain't holding out. I do think that any questions about his durability are answered sufficiently to pay him like an innings eater again.

I would let this season play out before making any long term decisions on Lackey. I think you take care of Lester first to archer your staff and then start looking at the rest of the staff. If the Sox fall out of it the kids will get a lot of opportunities during the second half so you will get a better idea of what they have.
