I was always under the impression that he loved playing for those pricks.

He was contemplating retirement throughout 2007. Because of his wishy-washy mentality, his teammates started to tune him out and not take him seriously.

For the record The Yankee Years is about Joe Torre, everything expressed in the book is his POV.

That's surprising. I remember him saying he really wanted to be back after his contract ran out.

Please, TBS, I beg you to show the jumbotron that's instructing these people to cheer.

They need that instruction. Rays fans treat going to the game as a social event. Not to actually watch. So, without it, they wouldn't have anybody cheering.

Curve is the one pitch the Sox probably don't see much of, at least from a guy that can throw it for strikes...plus the curve would have been the pitch that would have driven Vic to become a switch hitter more than just about any other pitch. Looked a little silly swinging at that one for sure.

Not many guys throw the curve any longer....it is not yet a forgotten pitch but there are way fewer guys throwing it as anything more than a show it pitch these days.

That might have happened, the book only covers through 2007, Torre's last year. Damon was out after 09, I want to say?

Still, between us winning in 2007 and coming within a game of the WS in 2008, and Damon signing up to be miserable in the Bronx Zoo, he lost. And it's glorious.

Christ, I had Jose Molina pegged as a heart attack candidate back in 2006, and not only has that not happened, he's still playing baseball.

I don't know how he is still playing. The only team he can hit is the Red Sox. Actually, I think I might have answered my own question.

Given how horrible the hitting standard is at catcher - being able to catch well is enough to justify a regular nod. If you can hit at all - watch the offers come in!
