Jagielo is in Tampa right now and is expected to sign shortly. Judge is in Oakland right now, taking BP with the team. He expects to sign soon. Kendall Coleman said he will sign shortly as well

Ian Clarkin, who we both agreed was the best talent the Yankees drafted, has said it will take "life-changing money" for him to sign with the Yankees. It's hard to imagine a scenario in which the Yankees fail to sign Clarkin and have what would be considered a successful draft.

I saw that on scout.com. The resident draft guru there doesn't think he signs for overslot. I tend to agree. His slot is worth $1.5 mil plus, that's life changing money

I don't see why he wouldn't require overslot money. He was ranked the 17th best prospect in the draft by Baseball America and he was drafted 33rd overall. He's also coming off a bad year by his standards, and could probably improve his stock by going to his home town college in San Diego. In the past, the Yankees have drafted Jonathan Gray and Gerrit Cole but failed to sign them. And they both increased their stock dramatically by going to college.

Cole lied to the Yankees outright. Gray was picked in the 10th round and offered $500K or so. I am sure that if the Yankees offered Gray $1.5 mil last yr, he'd be in their system

I love how when a player uses a negotiating tactic with the Yankees, and then doesn't sign with them, Yankees fans get all bent out of shape. Cole "lied to the Yankees outright"! How dare he do what every draft pick with a brain cell does.

Cole told the Yankees he would sign with them assuming the money was right. The Yankees had every intention of throwing the moon at him. Boras was his advisor and he said to wait until August to start throwing figures around. By the time August came around, he wouldn't talk money and said he was in love with going to UCLA. The Yankees never offered him anything. This isn't a case of a kid wanting the moon, this was a case where a player flat out lied and never talked money at all

That dirty, filthy liar! How dare he!

BTW, Clarkin and Gotsue are headed to Tampa tomorrow. Looking pretty good for signing

Clarkin's just getting his physical done. He'll probably hold out until the deadline for overslot money.

glad to see him signed, hope Judge is next for around slot too. I'd love to have enough to add Bridges and Fowler too. or just Quintril haha.

Judge wants overslot, the Yankees are offering slot. This is going to go down to the wire. If he signs, we get a big time talent that shouldn't have fallen to us. If he doesn't, we get a pick in the comp round next yr in what is supposed to be a deeper draft (believe that if you will). We should not offer overslot for him

The other thing is, he is betting on improving his draft stock. Lets say he does that, but the deeper draft sees him drafted in the mid 20s. What team in their right mind is going to offer a college senior that kind of coin? Appel is a special situation, I doubt the same can be said of Judge, and he'd lose most negotiating leverage. As we said before, the only option then would be Indy ball. He's better off signing, the Yankees aren't lowballing him

BTW, just wanted to point out that you were wrong. Apparently Clarkin agreed to slot practically right after the draft, but couldn't be finalized until he graduated HS and passed his physical, which he did last week

I was hoping we'd be able to snag McCarley, but I love Cortes. I like the draft class too, although I'm not sold on Jagielo or O'Neil. Fowler looks like an interesting prospect in the mold of Jake Cave, who I like.

O'Neil is going to be unfairly linked to his uncle. The kid isn't a power guy. He's a contact hitter with great wheels who can man CF. If he doesn't learn some strike zone discipline, he'll be a backup. If he can relax a little and take some pitches, he could be something more. It's a safe pick, IMO. Jagielo and O'Neil were the safe guys from the top 5 rounds. I doubt either player is an all-star, but they both likely profile as big leaguers with their skill sets as they are. The other guys are projection.
