The other day I was looking at MLB records and some of them probably not going to be touched(Cy Young's 511 wins, DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak, Ripken JR's most consecutive games 2,362, Nolan Ryan's career SO 5,714, etc) but there are some that I feel might be broken.

Barry Bonds HR record - Although in my eyes the winner here is still Hank Aaron, sadly Bonds is listed as the HR king. The person I think catches him is A-Rod and has plenty of time to do it. See I hate both of them but I really dislike Bonds so I don't really know who I want to hold the title. Hopefully Pujols who I also think has a chance, surpasses both of them.

Hank Aaron's XBH record(1,477) - A-Rod has a really good chance beat this one as well with 1,183

Cal Ripken GIDP(350)- Miguel Cabrera is only 29 and already has a good amount(190 in 10 seasons)

Reggie's SO record(2,597) - Jim Thome has 2,534 SO, possibly Dunn who has 1,999 at age 32

What do you guys think? Any other records that you think a current player can break?

I think the SO record you mentioned is going to be broken. The stats you posted with it for Thome and Dunn make it seem almost certain.

As far as the HR and XBH record, a couple seasons ago I would have been convinced that A-Rod would eventually break them, but considering how he has played and how injury-prone he has been of late, I'm not as confident anymore. Regardless, I think the HR and XBH, as well as the RBI and 2B records, will eventually be broken. None of them are untouchable given enough time, I think.

That goes for DiMaggios streak as well. I think it is going to be tough to beat, but I think it can be done.

Ripken's streak will never be beaten with the way the DL is utilized these days, and nor will Young's win record for the same reason, along with the increased use of relievers compared to the early years of baseball.

The record I am interested in seeing broken is the HR record, just because I would rather have anyone but Bonds be the champion. Hell, I'd rather see a Yankee have the title than Bonds.

I actually also think Jeter has an outside shot at breaking Pete Rose hit record .

It all depends how long he wants to play and how long the Yankee will want to trot him out there to play .

I hate Jeter just as much as every other person in the universe who isn't a Yankees fan, but I have to admit I don't see him as the kind of guy who would chase a record to the detriment of a team rather than retire because he sucks. I don't think he'd stay on the team if he was a true offensive liability just to get a record, and I don't think the Yankees would let it happen.

Granted, he isn't Pete Rosing it up right now, but that's a lot different than being Craig Counsell for three seasons just to try to break a record. I don't see it happening. He'd need like five or six more seasons and he doesn't have that in him.
