I am hearing Rich Hill is the only one when the rosters expand tomorrow. I was hoping to at least see outfielder Bryce Brentz called up.

Perhaps the Sox don't want to start the arbitration clock on their prospects.

While we would like to see guys, if there is no chance of them playing for the ML club in 2013 there is no reason to bring them up and start the clock in 2012.

The arbitration clock has taken the fun out of September call-ups. With Middlebrooks, Ryan Lavarnway, Jose Iglesias and Ryan Kalish already called up, I suppose we are seeing the guys who will likely be on the big league team in 2013.

I wonder about Daniel Bard. Perhaps he needs more time to figure things out before he faces big league batters.

I think Bard needs to figure out what his career will be after baseball.

I see he has been called up...and still hasn't figured it out.

How does FO determin when someone from AAA is ready to be called up?

September call up is nothing more than getting them some experience in the majors.

Another type of call up was Middlebrooks who forces the issue with his blazing start in AAA.

Anyone else remember the September call ups in 1974? They were so full of promise the press started calling them the Gold Dust Twins (at least I believe that was the nickname).

That was their nickname and I remember them well--Lynn and Rice. My recollection is that Lynn hit pretty well that September including a few bombs. Rice had been the IL Player of the Year.

I would like to see Iggy play enough games against enough different pitchers in these final games of the year for the Sox to be able to reasonably gauge whether or not he can play up here.

I for one had not expected Iggy to be completely overpowered by ML pitchers but that is what we are seeing. Sure he has not played many games yet and the last couple of series have featured some of the toughest rotations in the AL. But if against a wide range of staffs, Iggy continues to be completely overpowered then that is a different kettle of fish than I thought we were talking about.

He may just not be strong enough. There is nothing left for this season anyway. Lets see if Iggy can right the ship. If not, then actually I guess my prediction oft identified in these pages comes true. Iggy never plays as a Red Sox SS for any significant time and gets traded to an NL team where he may or may not turn out to be anything.

Iglesias was going to be dominated by pitching. He is Rey Ordonez. He will likely never hit over .250 and he will likely never OPS over .700. But you live with it since he will be amazing defensively

Not to this extent as far as Iggy goes. He must at least be able to handle a bat against a ML pitcher. So far he cannot even handle a bat against them. That is as I said earlier a completely different kettle of fish. However I want to see him against a wider range of pitchers before passing judgement. But if he never does better than this, he won't play here.

Anyone the Sox think can help them in 2013 should get a look. Allow these guys to get past that first time in the show gitters. If the Sox plan is to build around the youth then that is what I would do.

Being so late in the season, with nothing to lose, why not start a revolving door with Pawtucket, and give as many of the farm team players as much exposure as possible to the "big leagues.". Maybe THAT way they'd be better prepped for NEXT season!

Since the Pawsox made the playoffs via wild card should the called up players be sent down so that they get playoff experience? It may be the only chance they have to get playoff experience for a few years.
