Now What?

It's an organizational philosophy and you have a trigger happy manager. One of the compromises for next yr has to be to allow the starters a longer leash. They have to be able to go 120 pitches or else your pen will die in August again

 

I've been saying that quite awhile. But they have a front office that was in denial of the need for change until Henry pulled the plug at the owners meeting in mid August.

 

They were in denial, I suspect, because they were the guys, with Epstein, who made all the mistakes, and they don't like to admit them.

 

I say they can't really change direction and win again until Henry gets rid of the front office leadership--or hires a VP level guy to run the team--somebody like John Hart. Cherington is too much part of the problem to move this team in a different direction. Besides, he doesn't have the experience to rebuild a major team.

The starters were so inconsistent the first half that the bullpen pitched a sh _ _ load of innings which is now catching up with them. Most good teams have one or two guys that give them a ton of quailty starts that save the bullpen.

Keeping Runs from accumulating is not just a "Pitching" job. It takes a "Village" ( as one Preident's wife has said).

 

That said, I sure hate to see the Bullpen fall back into it's old inept ways of yesteryear!

 

"It's the economy, stupid" I hear myself saying. True enough........it IS about the "money" and times ARE tough. The Yankees have proven it to everyone, year after year. If you have the money AND you Manage it well, you CAN make it to the "winner's circle" time after time.

 

It was "the money" that drove the Bambino there, and it is "money" that will make or break the Bosox, regardless. If you can buy the best, you GET the best.

 

That 's not to say that we haven't seen some phenomenal "ball playing" from our guys of course. I'll give credit where credit is due.
