Barnes is 22 and hasn't dominated at any high level of the minors, so at age 23 next season, if he is the real deal, he should be dominating at least at AA. Until he does that, I reserve judgment. He hasn't proved to me that he is going to be a big time MLB stud pitcher. Right now, he is another Casey Kelly prospect from a few years back.

Every projection that I read about Bogaerts is that he will not be a SS in the majors. It seems like that is the organizations plan, not mine.

The guy just graduated from UConn last year. He hasn't been in the Sox system for years and has "only" made it to A+ ball. This is his first year in the organization. They started him at Greenville (A) and he put up this line: 2-0, 0.34 era, 0.600 whip, 14.2 k/9. Ok, domination. So they then moved him up (after just 5 games) to Salem (A+), where he has put up this line so far: 5-3, 3.07 era, 1.12 whip, 9.5 k/9. Again, tremendous. I wouldn't be surprised if he's in AA by the end of the year. And he should spend all of next year in AA and then maybe AAA if they feel like that would help his development - often times the best prospects stay at AA, and teams use AAA as the place to put rehabbing guys, etc., so I don't know where they'll put him. And then in 2014, he should be ready to join the Red Sox, after just two years in their minor league system.

In other words, he's on the fast track to the majors. Again, remember, they just drafted him last year out of college.

Don't know what to tell you about Bogaerts, but I agree with what SoxFanForsyth said.

I don't think Pitt would ever move Jameson though. Why would they? He's their future Strasburg' date=' but semi-Canadian.[/quote']

I think the Sox might (might) be able to use some of their current pieces to entice a team like PIT to move one of their better young prospects. They are close to contention and haven't been for a long, long time. They also have been innundated with young prospects and top picks for the past decade + and there may be either complacence about that, or a feeling about "what has it done for us.

If a team like that (or OAK) were interested in adding a Lester, or Ellsbury or Beckett (with all his salary paid) for a pitcher like Cole, I hope the Sox would consider making the deal.

That would hopefully be the progression, but we'll have to see what he can do at AA next season before we start penciling him in to start at Fenway.

Totally agree. I'm just saying that I expect him to arrive in the majors in 2014, and I'd be planning for that if I'm the Sox. Obviously, a hundred different things could happen that could derail that.

I'd trade Beckett for Cole and eat all of Beckett's salary right now if that was actually on the table. And I'm someone who, earlier in this thread, advocated keeping Beckett through 2013 and then trade him after that.

I just don't think there's any chance Pittsburgh would be interested in that, though I can see your logic.

One of the problems about moving Beckett right now is that he should have 10-5 rights already, so he'd have to approve any trade.

I'd also take it if it were being offered.

They can certainly dump salary, but they can't take on added salary. That means they are at a disadvantage in the trade market right now vs other teams who can trade prospects and take on salary. Which is why they probably won't/can't do anything. They are hamstrung with big contracts.

Also, I think there is no way they are going to eat any more contracts of underachievers. They did that with Youkilis and look what happened. Of course, they did box themselves in with Youkilis, and maybe allowed the media to be involved in the process.
