Boy they are playing with fire with this Rangers team. Buch has kept them in check but the Sox have real opportunities to score against this guy and just are not getting it done.

I almost wish they would get more two strike counts against as it might force them to stop trying to hit a dinger on every swing. This guy should be giving up base hits like penny candy.

at a boy Salty....hold the mitt right over the middle of the plate and then act surprised when that is where your pitcher puts it.

It was 3-0 and I knew it was still going to be a popout:lol:

It's just absolutely pathetic. I'm actually ok with going and getting HanRam. I'm so sick of seeing Aviles's s***** stance, horrible eye, and his consistent weak contact.

If I have to see that s*** every night, at least let it be for defensive wizadry. Otherwise, go get a SS who has capabilities.

A change of scenery could do absolute wonders for HanRam. Not just in the aspect of getting out of Miami and hitting the reset button, but also because he's extremely close to Papi, and because Fenway would be so inviting for him.

Couldn't agree more on Iggy. I'm fine with a 25-30 HR catcher, and his defense has improved a lot.

I should mention, I don't buy into cERA at all, so that's not a factor for me.

EDIT: I don't see how the bullpen can have a 3.11 ERA, yet the SP have a 4.89 ERA, and it be the catchers fault.

I think it is a combination of things. Shaky arm, poor plate blocking, and his ability to frame a pitch is very much lacking. Pitchers don't have much confidence in him. It would be one thing if it was a small sample size, but throughout his career, pitchers have done significantly worse when pitching to him than opposed to the other catcher on the roster. Relief pitchers have a very different mind set-- there is no settling in, or figuring out which pitches work, they just throw the ball, and hope their stuff is good for that given night. That, and Bobby Valentine is a matchup genius ;)

Not to mention the abysmal OBP and strikeout rates.

damn leadoff hit

Yeah he just stayed home to get treatment while the Sox traveled to Texas. He isn't eligible to be activated until August 1. He will rejoin the team, meaning he'll be with them in NYY in the dugout, not meaning he'll be activated.

Remember when Perez of the Braves used to hold his glove 6 inches off the plate--Glavine and Maddox would both hit it. And the ump would call it a strike.

and the Rangers pen is as deep as they get. This kid needs to just go through 5 and the Rangers will put the hurt on you

The Red Sox bullpen ERA (3.11) is actually better than the Rangers (3.24) and the Yankees (3.17).

That's surprising given the names.

BobbyV doesn't get nearly enough credit for doing what he's done with that bullpen, especially without Bard, Papelbon, or his replacement, Bailey.

The thing is, Crawford is absolutely useless with the Red Sox. He needs a change of scenery even more than Hanley--he has a bigger contract.

Bailey? The guy stuck his thumb somewhere it wasn't supposed to be --and was never seen again. Hilarious.

Salty's throwing is much improved from about end of May this year forward. So I can't really fault his arm this year. He does not block the plate well. he does not frame the ball that well although with some improvement this year and his target is terrible.

His throws are better I think because throwing is in the main a physical talent and he seems to also have learned not to try to rush the mechanics of the throw to second.

I think it is all the same thing as far as much of the rest goes. He simply loses concentration and focus. He works with his pitchers some of the time by giving them a good target and then out of the blue he will be holding the mitt almost right over the middle of the plate seemingly oblivious to the fact that his pitcher is going to throw it there. I have seen him do that for six, seven pitches in a row. Then either he snaps out of it again himself or somebody yells at him...at don't know but he will work at it again for time before he falls back into holding the mitt over the middle of the plate, 2" or so one way or the other.

I think blocking the plate is a matter of concentration and focus as well. He drifts out into the diamond and away from the plate and suddenly he has to make a play. He is often in the wrong spot still wearing that stupid mask. If he tossed the mask about a mile away at the start of the play he would have a much easier time taking that throw from the outfield.

Crawford is just dying for a pitch inside to drive, he wants it so badly he'll swing at s*** at his ankles as long as it's inside but watch pitches at his thighs on the outside half.

Cliff Lee was just booed off the field in Philly after giving up 6 runs off 4 homeruns and a season high 12 hits thru 7 1/3 innings. Greinke on the other hand has only given up 1 run on 3 hits...
