While the Red Sox ponder the question of which LHP should start in Yankee Stadium, the Dodgers just bought Hanley Ramirez. This guy, if nothing else, was an opportunity lost to unload Crawford. They may never get another.

This team has sucked for 3 years now. There is no sense of urgency to do anything on the part of the ownership or the front office. They seem to be in a holding pattern. I wonder if Henry isn't getting ready to sell the team. You stop winning, the fans stop coming.

They will make no meaningful moves.

Why? Is he coming off shoulder surgery? Is he a rookie?
No and no. Also, there is no big investment in him. They are saving his arm so that he is healthy for next season so we can make a strong run at 4th place.

I don't believe the Sox will make meaningful moves either. However we don't know what Miami thought of Crawford after scouting him. If I were watching Crawford play, I would not be much interested in the guy and would have in all likelihood only taken him under extremely favorable conditions to me as the team then stuck with him. There is much about Carl's game that suggests he has issues unrelated to the size of the Boston market and other issuess that might be a factor in the performance we have seen from Carl so far.

1) the amount of money committed to him is ridiculous. I can't imagine a team that would not demand that the Sox pay a portion of his salary even if he were playing up to his potential.

2) he may blow out his elbow at any time requiring TJS

3) His defense has been in a word abysmal....Red Sox like....and much like Carl has issues outside of those we might associate with being in a big market, Carl has defensive issues that have nothing to do with the wall in Fenway. Most of Carl's defensive issues have been coming in on balls and have had nothing what-so-ever to do with the wall

4) He still shows signs of having difficulty with the slider from LH pitchers even with his new stance and still appears to be chasing balls low and away

So maybe what happened is that the Miami scouts have eyes as well and they simply came back feeling forced to push a deal onto Boston that was just to difficult for Boston to swallow.
