With the emergence of 19 year-old Jurickson Profar (Baseball America's #7 prospect), it seems like there's a log jam at SS for the Rangers. Does this free up Andrus for trade consideration in a few years, and do you think the Sox will be interested? At this point I think we will know if Iglesias will pan out, so that obviously would shape the decision.

Don't know if you have a particular interest in the player but your question does make me remember that the Sox appear to be building their own logjam at SS. Could it be that teams, realizing that baseball is going back to pitching and defense post steroids, are trying to come up with SS that can both be plus defenders and hit?

I for one do not think we will see future players that are limited as defenders playing such a key defensive position as SS just because they can pull the ball over the green monster. So I do think that the recent trend toward Scooter or Aviles types as front line SS is likely to come to an end even in Boston. This would be pretty new for Boston as plus defenders even in the key defensive positions usually end up dying at the feet of the Monster here in Boston.

That seems riduculous to me that offense is somehow depreciating in value. At any position. It's the guy who gives the best chance to win. Whether its with his bat or his glove or both, games aren't won on good stopping, they're won on stopping and getting run support.

This is a good point.

All teams are reasonably expected to understand that winning can happen on both sides of the ball. At the SS position in particular there are many more chances to contribute victories defensively than offensively. The other way of saying that is that a guy with a good bat but mediocre defense could actually neutralize his bad due to the defensive nature of the position.

I know, I said in a few years if Iglesias doesn't pan out.

In a few years, Beltre will be in the twilight of his career. I think TX will move Andrus to 3B eventually.

Beltre is still pretty young.

He is only 33, but he does have over 2000 games played already. Nearly all the active players over 1500 games are on the decline. By the end of 2014, he'll be at around 2400 games. I can't see him having THAT much left in the tank then.

Profar will surely be the main prospect in a package Texas will deal for pitching at this year's deadline.

Ryan is their team prez. Defense and pitching are important to him. Andrus is a great defender and he's young. They're not moving him

Seems like the kind of player the Yankees would lust after, what with Jeter in decline and all.

They'll pick up a washed up Hanley Ramirez for 6/120M.
