I don't understand where the mvp78 and a700 disagreement started. Was it in another thread or am I missing something here?
The issue is over as far as I am concerned. We aired it out, and I understand where he is coming from. Hopefully, he sees my point of view too.

Pumpsie is okay. He has a different point of view rhan many. But a Red Sox team that is 4 or 5 games under .500 at Fenway is good reason to be pewssimistic. I canKt remember when the Sox fielded a team with a better road record than home record' date=' and I certainly don't remember them playing under .500 at home, and this is my 46 year following the Sox. I don't think there is cause to think the season is over yet, and Pumpsie is still probably holding out some hope too.[/quote']

I have written many times that IMO this season is not over. Its only JUNE. Lots can happen. Trades to help the team can (and should) be made. We CAN still make the playoffs, though we have to start winning a lot of games sooner rather than later. The cards CAN fall in our direction. Right now, the team does stink. They are playing very bad baseball, and no, I do NOT revel in losses as someone else here wrote.

Its time to boogie for the Red Sox. Gotta start winning series again. Not every game, just series. Starting in Florida.

who likes a losing team?

I believe this team can make the playoffs but WS is out of grasp.

Based on what? The playoffs are a crapshoot. Last year's Cardinals and the 2006 Cardinals are both great examples of how teams can stumble into the playoffs, get hot at the right time and win a title.

If the Sox get to the playoffs, they have as good a shot as any other wild card, and almost as good a shot as the division winners (the new format does have an impact). If they can make the playoffs, they can win it all.

We have no reason to believe that the Sox are a better team than the Nats after they swept us out of our house. They are built on young solid' date=' if not spectacular, pitching throughout their rotation. They have young top talent all over the field, and they have a budding 19 old Super Star inHarper. That kid has tools and heart. Strasburg is on his way to being shutdown #1 stud pitcher. Injuries are not an excuse for the Sox. The Nats hav lost their big $ guy, Werth for most of the season. He was off to a much better start in 2012 than 2011. They just got Morse back-- arguably their best hitter in 2011. They lost their starting catcher for the season and they are without their closer, Storen until July. We have no argument to make here in favor of the Sox. None.[/quote']

Oh please don't give me that. Overall we're still the better team. They happened to play good baseball at a time we played bad baseball. You can't possibly tell me you thought the series was going to end like this.

I don't think anyone was expecting a sweep, but you could make an argument for the Nats being better than the Red Sox right now. Especially taking injuries into account. With Harper living up to the hype, an excellent young starting rotation and a solid bullpen, they could be one of the best teams in the majors.

Tip your cap to good team that played well against us. It happens.

I knew they had good pitching coming into the series, and I didn't like the matchups. I thought Lester would win his game and they would score some runs off Zimmerman. I just don't see any justification for thinking the Sox are the better team at this juncture.

Not right now. They made no mistake in showing us that. With Crawford, Ellsbury and Ross in top form, the Red Sox can play anyone and be on equal or higher ground, except maybe the Rangers. Right now, the Nats are better.

To be fair, they did have their top 3 going against our 4-5-1. I think you can say with a fair amount of confidence that Beckett can beat Gio. Lester would likely lose to Stras, but the way Buchholz has thrown the ball he would almost certainly have beaten Zim. So a Stras win and a Buch win, with the toss up game as Gio vs Beckett.

It whould nevere happen when our #1 is going in the series no matter what the matchups. No one on our staff was going to best Gio on Saturday. We only had three hard hit balls of him and one was an out. There are lots of excuses and people are engaging in all sorts of rationalizations for a team that hasn't played .500 ball as of June 10th. The fact is that the Red Sox need to play over .600 ball from this point on to get to 90 wins. I don't see them jump starting to that pace at this point. Maybe they can go on a tear when Ells, CC and Bailey come back, but at that juncture they may need to play .650 ball to get to 90 wins.
