Lowrie and Reddick aside, the PawSox have had the best or near the best record in AAA so far this season.

Isn't it about time some of their best players besides Middlebrooks saw Red Sox uniforms?

I did not lay it on Cherington... not even sure I would lay it entirely on Theo. I have never bought into the idea the Theo ever really got out from under LL. May have gotten more leeway but I just don't think LL gives up power other than giving up just enough to have a whipping boy if he needs one.

After the gorilla suit affair, Epstein was given more power over player personnel. He signed Crawford over the stated objections of Henry. That tells a lot. My impression is the front office was accustomed to pretty much running the show, and they expected that would continue after Epstein left. They clearly didn't pick the manager, but appear to have the upper hand over Valentine in personnel matters. That seems to be a concession from Lucchino.

I believe part of the Red Sox problem right now is a tug of war between the FO and V.

If you believe the Globe's Cafardo is V's mouthpiece, there are significant differences and V isn't getting his way on personnel.

That is not what Henry said. Henry did not make his objections known at the time of the signing and in fact said he did not. However took it upon himself to voice his objection after the fact which is why so many people took him to task for it. Either he should have voiced his objection at the time or save that, he should have shut up after the fact. He did not object when his objection would have been meaningful and then could not keep from telling the world that he never liked the deal in the first place.

Henry's revelation on WEEI was astonishing. It was made in a moment of frustration, and it revealed a bit of the inner workings of the Red Sox management--something they are not prone to do. He objected all right,at the time, but was perhaps overruled by a majority (the Red Sox make major decisions by the owners, LL, and GM voting--majority prevailing. That was revealed years ago during the Francona management search). Or perhaps he simply yielded to Epstein's view.

Sure--he should have shut up--because it was history. And his admission hurt his relationship with Crawford, a guy he is committed to paying a fortune for a long time. And may have also damaged his relationship with the rest of the team.

I dunno...I think Crawford's got 142 million pretty good reasons to recover quickly from the slight John Henry inflicted upon his sensitive soul. <_>

Yeah, but we all have feelings. ;)
