Doesn't the fact that Montero has barely played catcher this year give it away man? The Mariners don't see him as a long-term solution at C.

Ah - I haven't paid enough attention to the M's but you're right. He's more of a 1B/DH. Good call. Pick makes sense.

Can't believe Appel didn't go to the O's. With Bundy, that could have been a sick 1-2 punch.

I really thought Appel will go first, then second, then third, then fourth. I still think the Royals will take him.

On an unrelated matter, I saw some mocks where we get that short RHP whose name I forgot. Based on the scouting reports I doubt if it will come to it but he seems to be both the talent and the need for now.

Stroman?

After hearing so much about this draft, it sounds like most of the best players decided to go into the draft early last year to maximize their signing bonuses. Anyone have any knowledge about what the Red Sox are thinking/ or the quality of the players between 30-40?

It's a weak draft. Not a lot of projected impact players mid-round.

I just remembered what his problem is. Boras is his agent.

That shouldn't make a difference this year-- unless some team is willing to give up on the rest of their draft's money to sign him.

Seen a few mocks.

Seen Stroman, seen Piscotty, but mostly hearing Naquin.

ESPN's scouting report on Naquin:

Naquin's claim to fame isn't his bat or his wheels, but his arm, one of the best in the draft this year on any position player (and perhaps better than a few good pitchers have, too).

No outfielder gets drafted in the top 40 picks on the strength of his arm alone, though, so it's a good thing Naquin can do a few other things. He's a plus runner who mostly played right field at A&M because Krey Bratsen (a draft-eligible sophomore who can run but can't hit) played center, and there's no reason Naquin couldn't handle center in pro ball given reps out there. Naquin has bat speed thanks to quick hands at the plate, but his high setup and deep load create unnecessary length in his swing; he should be a high-contact line-drive hitter, but misses too many pitches because of that length.

His ceiling is an above-average everyday centerfielder who adds value with his glove, his legs, and by getting on base -- but he probably has to shorten that swing to reach it.

That's not the point at all. Signability is the problem. Boras wouldn't blink to send a kid to play in an independent league if he doesn't get what he wants, and with specific slotted amounts, that magnifies signability issues a lot more.
