Probably one of the real indications of an issue with Theo and pitching was when we found out (late of course) that Theo knew about Lackey's elbow and signed him anyway at the same money offered before finding out about the elbow. All Theo did was add some meaningless language to the contract that related to the elbow that was never going to save the Sox from anything.

"Gee Theo while we were giving John his physical we found out about this elbow issue. He can pitch right now but no telling when it is just going to go to hell."

"Oh thats OK......we've already counted this as spent money anyway. It's all good man."

not true. He added language that added a big league minimum option to the end of the deal. If Lackey comes back to his previous level of performance after his surgery, then he will be had at a steal for 2015

He went out and got guys who had good stuff but big warning signs. Obviously' date=' DiceK had a few. Small frame, lots of mileage, a bit of a diva. And Lackey had elbow problems and diminishing velocity.[/quote']

Lackey was an afterthought for Theo after realizing that he was criticized for missing the boat one too many times on the big money aces. Lackey was a contact pitcher who did well in his weak division, it didn't take a genius to figure that he wasn't a sure shot in the AL East. No one could spend so much money as wrongly as Theo could.

Lots a good it is doin' us right now. Do you really think that is going to turn that contract into a good deal?

I wont fault you there, I was just pointing out that the "language" of the contract added a yr at league minimum

No, it won't. But it allows you to recoup this season at league minimum value in 2015

That is exactly right Bren and that's my point.

I would absolutely take Lackey in 2015 on a big league minimum deal. If he sucks, you cut him for nothing. If he is good, then he solidifies the back end of the rotation

no he didn't ' date=' he was brutal[/quote']

Yeah, as I remember it, it was a nightmare. I remember he would win some games if they gave him an inordinate amount of run support.

Lackey isn't solidifying anything but the scum layer in my septic tank.

As a Yankee fan, it would make me so happy for him to suck. But as a baseball fan, you really have to see how he comes back in 2013 before you judge. He's had chronic elbow issues since he left Anaheim. Now that his elbow should be structurally sound, you may see his stuff rebound. You may also find out that he is the same 89mph pusballer he was when he left. Who knows?

Hey Mark' date=' how ya been?[/quote']

Hey Brennan. As good as can be expected with this group of bums. No baghead this year, though. Not as much shame losing with this team as there was with last year's team. If this team finishes out of the basement they will have outdone themselves.

I believe Lackey's contract says if he has TJ surgery that they have the option for a 6th year at the league minimum. It would almost be worth keeping him around just to see him pitch for peanuts for a year.

(Peanuts being a relative term here. I would love to be earning the league minimum.)

No. It counts toward the 2015 tax at 15M.

I hope Lackey get abducted by aliens and never come back. People call AGon "putrid" on here. He's nothing compared to the hot gabage Lackey smell.
