I hope Bowden and Expo have good careers and wouldn't mind if both ended up back with Boston. They were released because the Sox needed 40 man space' date=' not necessairly because they suck.[/quote']

Thank you.

Pardon me for my sentimentality. I just like "homegrown talent".

Bowden was starting to grow on me. He did get his chance to pitch this year and gave up a homerun. He has potential, but is still very inconsistent. I don't really know if there is a future for either Bowden or Exposito on the actual Red Sox roster.

I just don't understand why it was Bowden that was DFA'd and not Justin Thomas? Neither are world beaters, but with Bowden there's at least a glimmer of potential, albeit small.

This stumped me also.

That has to be the only reason. It is a good life to be able to throw a baseball left handed. You'll never be unemployed.

Which is a asinine thing to keep Thomas around. The guy is a career minor leaguer. Couldn't even make it in Pittsburgh.

And if he's ask to face Pena today and walk him/give a HR... he'll still be around till Miller/Hill return.

Agreed. I would have kept Bowden.

I frankly don't know what's going on with the Sox personnel. Who's making the decisions? Ben? Bobby V?

Both? You can't tell from a distance, and the Globe isn't talking.

I will say this. If Ben is making all the personnel decisions (excluding the choice of manager), he has an awful lot of power for a first year GM.

Bowden has peaked and despite his work ethic his delivery means he is destined to be a 4A pitcher at best. Thomas for all his flaws is a lefty. That makes him more valualable all else being equal.

Posted by Peter Abraham, Globe Staff April 17, 2012 02:18 PM

The Orioles they have claimed catcher Luis Exposito, who was designated for assignment by the Red Sox on Saturday.

Exposito, 25, is a career .268/.324/.420 hitter in seven minor league seasons. He was a 31st round selection in the 2005 draft.

No word as yet on the fate of RHP Michael Bowden, who also was designated.
