More from the Globe:

Rays vs. Buchholz: Longoria 5-20, Scott 3-19, Zobrist 3-15, Pena 2-15, Joyce 1-5, Molina 3-5, Brignac 0-3, Rodriguez 0-2.

Sox vs. Hellickson: Gonzalez 2-9, Ortiz 4-10, Pedroia 2-10, Youkilis 1-7, Saltalamacchia 1-6, McDonald 1-1.

Stat of the Day: Manager Joe Maddon is one win away from 500 with Tampa Bay. Only four active managers have 500 wins with their current team: Charlie Manuel (Phillies) Mike Scioscia (Angels), Ron Gardenhire (Twins), and Jim Leyland (Tigers).

Notes: Buchholz faced the Rays in his final game of the 2011 season, on June 16. He went five innings, allowing one run on two hits then was lost for the season with a back injury. He is 4-2, 1.81 in eight career starts against the Rays, never allowing more than three earned runs. Buchholz faced them just that one time last season ... Hellickson is pitching despite a scary incident in Detroit Wednesday when he was hit in the head by a batted ball while throwing in the bullpen during batting practice ... The 2011 AL Rookie of the Year pitched well against the Sox last season, going 2-1, 3.38 in four starts. He as 2-0, 2.45 in two starts at Fenway ... Sweeney has hit safely in all six games he has played in this season at 9 of 21 with four RBIs ... The Sox have not won consecutive games since sweeping a doubleheader from Oakland last Aug. 27.
