Well, the Miami Marlins have a new name, new park, new manager and new stars like Jose Reyes , Mark Buerhle, and Heath Bell, to join Josh Johnson, Mike Stanton and Hanley Ramirez. Many think they are a contender this year in what is now a very good NL East. They are also the main story in this week's Sports Illustrated. What are your thoughts? I personally think they will get to at least the playoffs.

They will contend if Reyes is good and Hanley gets back to where he was. Also think Bonafacia must progress some more, JJ has to be healthy all year. I think a good part of this will turn out, but they certainly have the tools.

The Phillies and Braves still have the better rotations, by far. But yeah, the Marlins will be in the thick of it this year. They should definitely finish above .500.

Two wild card teams. I can't see anyone else except maybe the Brewers/Cardinals.

2 wild cards and they just got dramatically better. If Johnson is healthy, that rotation is dirty. Plus, another yr for Stanton, Sanchez, Morrison could hurt. Hanley should be healthy and Reyes will be a sparkplug. They're gonna be a WC team, bank it

I don't think so. The Braves and Phillies are still both very good. The Nationals won 8 more games than them last year, and also get significantly better in 2012, with Gonzalez, Jackson, Lidge and a healthy year from Strasburg helping the team. Plus if Harper emerges, and Werth returns to form, I think the Nationals will be much better.

No they're not. You can be certain that the O's and Mariners aren't even contenders in their own minds.

Don't forget the Astros, Cubs, and Pirates.

Bell is a good closer, but you should never pay money for saves. Should have just used someone who already was in the pen to close. Buehrle had a 117 ERA+ which is solid, but, if you split his stats, he flourished in May, June, and July. When the Palehose were trotting out a six man rotation. Going to the NL he'll probably fare better, especially in that huge ballpark they're building (its enormous, check the dimensions for yourself). Jose Reyes, defending NL batting champ, and a pretty good player. But, his hamstrings have a history of being injured, and his biggest asset is speed. If his legs continue to be damaged, and he is starting to age, that is going to zap of his biggest asset. These contracts are going to bite them in the ass, and not to mention, they're back loaded so I doubt anyone takes them with Florida paying most of the tab.

Zambrano has a huge attitude problem, he's not a bad pitcher when he keeps his head cool, but he'll wear out his welcome fast. Ozzie is a loadmouth, classless buffoon who is a clubhouse cancer. Don't believe me? Ask a White Sox fan.

Marlins have a good team, but hot tempters (Hanley, Ozzia, Zambrano) its going to be a disaster, and an expensive one.

Does Stanton want to be known as Giancarlo or Mike? Now almost everywhere I look it's Giancarlo (which I think fits the Marlins better), but I deff think they will be contenders. The Mets are very mediocre as always. The Phillies will be there, but with the new playoff system the Marlins will benefit

Lol my friend swears the Marlins will have a better record than the Red Sox. This idiot bet me 200 bucks. He's telling me how the Marlins are not playing to their potential and have better players in every position. Right, which is why pretty muxh every year the Marlins existed the Sox had a better record. He's trolling so hard right now. I can't even deal how stupid this kid is.

right now, you're losing that bet. Dont count your chickens before they hatch my friend

Yeah right now. The Marlins always start off like this. They're basicall the same team with a few more players. Dumbass Floridans think because they change the team name and get a new stadium they're going to be good. Oh please. That's such ********. You know damn well the Sox kick it in to gear around June. We're not even half way through the season. They're only like 3 games ahead. You have to be an idiot to bet on a team like that. Throughout the 19-20 years(not really sure how long marlins have been around) they had a better record than us TWICE. Last time 1997 and the first time 1994. They suck. Easiest 200 bucks ever. Red Sox might not make the playoffs but we'll still end up with a better record.

The Marlins stocked up on a lot, and they're playing well despite the fact that their best pitcher has been ridiculously shaky. Hate to agree with Jacko, but your characterization of the Sox's chances are gratuitously overconfident. You should have learned your lesson with that promise that the Red Sox would make the playoffs to not let your mouth/keyboard write checks that your ass can't cash.

That said, I still think the Sox will get hot, and make the playoffs with about 95 wins, and the Marlins will only win about 83 or 84 tops. Even if and when JJ gets into a groove, I don't see Zambrano being this good, he might have a solid comeback year, but he's going to fall off. I don't know though, baseball is weird.

Yeah, but you said it because you thought there was no way you could lose. You shouldn't make promises you can't keep dude, it makes your word lose it's value. Sorry to sound like your mother, but yeah, you shouldn't do that.

Everyone knew you were just blowing smoke up our asses with that, but still, the point remains.

You make a valid point but if anyone honestly believes something that unrealistic then they don't deserve to get s***. That's like BornToRun saying something like "If Beckett pitches a no hitter I'll give up my lef nut". No one is going to take that seriously. That's kind of how I felt about my comment. Yeah a 17 year old with a part time job can afford to give everyone MLB.TV  Please.

Yeah, but if you would have said left nut, everyone knows giving your left nut is a common figure of speech. You'll probably never completely live down that MLB TV thing, some guy will remind you late in the season in one way or another, LOL I promise you that.

nobody expects you to, but by throwing it out there and then recanting it, it shows that you cannot put your money where your mouth is. I am sure that if your friend wins this bet, you'll reneg on that one too
