Athletics Agree To Sign Yoenis Cespedes

The Athletics have agreed to terms with Yoenis Cespedes, reports Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports (on Twitter). Susan Slusser of The San Francisco Chronicle says (on Twitter) that it's a four-year deal worth approximately $36MM. Adam Katz represents the Cuban outfielder.

Wow, that came out of nowhere.

He knows it's Billy Beane no Brad Pitt right?

I can see it now, walks into ST, "Where is Angelina?" doh! "What about the funny fat guy?"

Looks like he wants to be the big name cause from what I have managed to read(not much) it looks as if the Marlins deal was better. Maybe they have too many names and he is afraid they swagger jack him and his star won't shine through the rest of the names on the team?

He probably didn't want to go to AAA. Unfortunately he failed to realize playing in Oaklnad is practically the same thing :)

The decision is about the years. He'll be done with his contract around age 30-- the year most elite players get ridiculous paydays. Had he signed one of the six year deals teams were offering him, he'd be a free agent at 32, and would probably not get the same kind of gravy-train megadeal.

Assuming the kid can play...

While Oakland may resemble a AAA team, the desire to not go to AAA is probably more about the level of competition, which is not what the A's will be facing this year in the Rangers and Angels.

I thought about that as well. But that reality interfered with my angle for my small joke about the A's :D

I guess this will eliminate their consideration for Manny.

They are still in the mix for Manny as he will be the DH and not playing in the OF.
