Please someone more familiar with the area correct me if I am wrong but isn't one of the problems for baseball in DC the combination of the Redskins owning the place and the near proximity of so many other baseball teams that lay claim to some segment of the fan base for baseball?

Interesting though that this year, even the O's have had trouble drawing even having a great season. So given that is this more an issue of pro football really sort of dominating the local sports scene leaving the leftovers for baseball?

I am just grabbing at straws here hoping to draw out a comment from someone more familiar with the area.

Football is big no doubt but the problems with Washington baseball are those I outlined above and logistical. Apart from the question of fan loyality there are real logistical problems getting in and out of DC for night baseball. Hockey and basketball don't need to draw above 25k every night to be competitive. The baseball stadium although a great ball yard is located on the edge of a tough area and on the wrong side of town. It IMO is difficult to drive to and Metro has it's own issues.
