I agree with 700. For me it was like the real Mets finally showed up and so did the real Red Sox. For me in some ways even Bucky F***ing Dent was worse then the Mets fiasco.

Both pail in comparison to the collapse of 2011.

The Dent HR was bad, but the '86 WS was worse--because the Sox hadn't won a Championship since 1918?, and they were so--o close. They were ahead 4-2 in games, and an out or two away from winning. The champagne was in the clubhouse.

By 2011, the Sox had won a couple of championships, and making the playoffs was expected.

It was the underachieving aspect of this team that pissed everybody off.

Every one is entitled to their own opinion on this, but losing night after night for a month and feeling hopeless every night losing a 9 game lead was worse for me. The Buckner thing was like finding out that a loved one had died suddenly, but 2011 was like watching them die slowly. I literally had a headache for the whole month of September starting at around 5 pm every night until I went to bed.

That is probably the best description to sum up this past September. After a while I had a bad feeling in my stomach everytime I would watch a game. Would be interesting to have Bill back I think.
