Anyone catch WEEI radio earlier? Anyone else find it really interesting that John Henry didn't know about the Kevin Fowler music video. There is divided opinion but for mine it sounded like he no idea. Larry was stuttering the whole time through it. He didn't know.

 

And for the Red Sox name to be used in something like that without him knowing is definitely going to cause a reaction. Maybe he truly didn't know? For mine he didn't.

He definitely sounded like he didn't know about that insignificant music video that the Red Sox players appeared in for a total of about 10 seconds between 5 of them. He was caught off guard. You could almost hear Lucchino trying to say "yeah, we knew about that John. We should talk about it later." I was a bit suprised that the stupidity of that video didn't rise to Henry's level, but not shocked. I thin kit is a good rule of thumb to never let your boss be caught off guard by something like that, especially in his ONE public appearance throughout this whole thing... I believe Henry is Lucchino's boss.

 

It looks a lot worse in the context of the beer in the clubhouse reports, and might get a PR guy fired (the guy who allows Sox uniforms and Fenway to be used by that musician). In any case the stupid video will be an insignificant but memorable image of this offseason.

I dont think that is up to the PR guy. You have to ask permission to use brand names, and that often involves cash been given to the organization and someone of importance within the organization. A PR guy doesn't have the authority to go over the owners head.

Yep. And it's not something you really want your starting rotation doing in the middle of the season - in uniform and in your ballpark.

Meh, it's not that big of a deal, it probably didn't take much longer to shoot it than it's length in the video, it's not like this is new anyway. Bronson Arroyo did that album and had a few Sox players on it, Kevin Youkilis has been in a few music videos, and I'm pretty sure others have at some point too.

 

The fact that it happened in a season where those allegations popped up is just painful irony.

Weren't they wearing Red Sox uniforms with logos in that commercail? Can't do that without team permission.

 

Hard to believe Lucchino or Henry didn't know about this--or a lot of other things.

Sox management is pretty conscience of the Sox "brand". I can believe that they did not know about it, particularly John Henry but I can't believe they would just shrug their shoulders and move on without making some statement about needing to get an authorization for something like that particularly now that Henry knows. When I listened to it I got the impression that Henry did not know but that Larry did know.

 

I would be inclined to think that in the other instances mentioned, those responsible did in fact receive authorization to use the Sox uniform in that way.

Maybe the real question is, "Does Henry have a shelf life?"
