Well, as you may or may not know there's a hurricane traveling up the East coast, and will hit the land tomorrow in NC, and will travel through NC all the way through New England. It will affect Baltimore (NYY vs Bal), Philadelphia (Fla vs Phi), New York (Atl vs NYM), and then Boston as well as DC. There have been many options talked about including A's-Sox DH either tomorrow or Saturday. If they only play two games in the series, the two teams don't meet again and don't share an off day for the remainder of the season. Another threat is in place: Can 99-year-old Fenway take the storm?

From today's Globe:

ARLINGTON, Texas - As Hurricane Irene takes a path toward New England, the Red Sox are working on contingency plans for this weekend’s series against Oakland at Fenway Park.

All matchupsAccording to the latest forecasts, the storm could arrive in the Boston area Saturday with drenching rain and damaging winds.

For the moment, the Sox are scheduled to play Oakland tomorrow night, then in day games Saturday and Sunday.

The Sox have a day off scheduled Monday, but the Athletics start a series in Cleveland that day. The teams have no common offdays in September.

The expected rain Sunday could lead the teams to play a doubleheader tomorrow or Saturday.

“I think they’re throwing around a lot of ideas that are just ideas,’’ said manager Terry Francona. “I know they’re trying to brainstorm.’’

A decision would have to be made by both teams in conjunction with Major League Baseball.

“Nobody wants to miss gates,’’ said Francona. “The Red Sox don’t, the league doesn’t, for obvious reasons, and for competitive reasons, so do we.’’

The immediate concern for the Sox is their flight back to Boston after tonight’s game. The storm is expected to be moving up the East Coast by that point.

“There was some iffiness if it got here quicker,’’ Francona said.

Oh, ofcourse. The problem would be keeping the boats on top of it rather than beneath it. Plus, I'm going to take a guess and say that the rental place is probably going to close up shop.

Looks like the winds wont be as powerful up in Mass as initially projected. They said 100mph 2 days ago, now it's down to 65mph. Still strong winds, but not strong enough to destroy strip malls, lol. The rains will be interesting. I am not worried about flooding in my house since it's a newer build and sits atop a hill, but I would bet all our streets will be flooded

The timetable right now says it won't be in the DC-Philly area until Sunday am. Later in the day in NE.

But weather reports are frequently inaccurate, so you have stay tuned.

One of my friends lives on the beach in NC now because of a tornado hit his house in GA. He just recently moved there and now a Hurricane Irene is on its way. Talk about bad luck. :o :) At least he has hurricane insurance.

One of the things they say to do when you're preparing for a hurricane is to keep in contact with a friend or family member from out-of-state.

Good advice.
