As the Sox push on through August and into September, the Boston candidates for the prize essentially come down to three players - Jacoby Ellsbury, Dustin Pedroia and Adrian Gonzalez.

Gonzalez, BOS: .348/.409/.545, 92 RBI, 18 HR

Ellsbury, BOS: .313/.368/.516, 78 RBI, 22 HR

Pedroia, BOS: .305/.395/.473, 62 RBI 16 HR

If A-God plays like A-God pre all star break he'll most likely get it. He's a totally different person after the HR derby. Now I know they say the HR derby messes up your swing ******** but it really did look like it has. Idk if it's his shoulder or what but the power is just not there.

Gonzalez, because he's got the offense. .950 OPS, if he gets like 25 homers, and gets a lot of RBIs, since the guys who vote for it love RBIs and Avg., mixed with some power and OBP, he will win it IMO without a doubt. He's on a winning team. Jose Bautista, however, is the MVP though. He won't win it bc he's with the Jays, but he's the best player.

Now that Gonzo's in a slump, no one on the team will. I'm thinking that it's probably going to be someone on the Yankees.

From the Sox? Ellsbury has the best chance. He's got the potential to be a 30 HR, 30+ SB, .300+ hitter, 100+ Runs, 100+ RBI guy this season, which is unbelievable. An absolute complete player, and he plays top notch defense in center field. I know a lot of people are going to argue that Granderson has had the better year, but his defense has been really bad, and this isn't the Silver Slugger, it's the MVP. Defense actually counts here. Now, whether the voters actually look at that or not, who knows, but if you ask me, Ells has the best shot.

Also, Adrian's power outage has hurt him pretty bad. One homerun in his last 157 PA is brutal, and he's got 2 RBI in August.

It looked like Gonzo was going to run away with it, but he's just been average after the ASB. Ellsbury has been lights out all year. That combination of average, power, and speed in the lead off spot is invaluable.

Honestly, I'd really prefer that if it is any of them, that it be Adrian Gonzalez. If Pedroia or Ellsbury gets MVP this year, it will be significantly more expensive to lock them up when they hit FA.

Very good point. I would prefer it be Gonzalez, but I think Ellsbury has a better shot at this point.

Well, if we and they base the award only by the numbers (the way it is supposed to work), the question is pretty easy to answer.

Now, If A-God finishes leading at least 2 departments of the triple crown, and put 25-30 HR, he will win, even if Bautista would have a better OPS and HRs.

Almost every player goes at some point of a season through some kind of slump, and Adrian is not immune. The good thing is that his slump is now and not in the second half of September or even worse, on October... he'll be fine.

Pedroia , He's having a better season than when he first won the award .

Leads the team in WAR at 6.9 and MLB at that position.

Followed by Ellsbury.

Even with his 2 HR yesterday, Agon has fallen off the pace in the last few weeks.
