Middlebrooks, Reddick and Lavarnway are the only real standouts who've made some good progress. Coyle and Cecchini also derserve some praise, but a lot of stinkers mixed in between. Whats your opinion on the year as the minor league season draws closer to a close.

This is why a Yankees fan should not discuss Red Sox prospects. Not only are they not familiar with the system but they let their bias run wild with the subjective aspects of talent evaluation.

Well please inform me different then, instead of just saying that. It would appear you know knowing about the system and are just making a blanket statement

Just curious, did you actually look at this? They actually took their pre-season list, kept the same players/grades, and made a one-line comment next to each. Its very hard to judge the current state of the system based on grades from several months ago.

Brentz has had a really good year, especially relative to any expectations coming in after last year. I'm excited to see what he looks like next year in Portland, where he'll face more age appropriate competition (he's 22 this year).

Low A, Greenville - .359/.414/.647, 11 HR

High A, Salem - .250/.313/.540, 15 HR

Jacobs has shown some good tools this year in a age appropriate level (he's 20).

Low A, Greenville - .315/.398/.515, 14 HR, 26 SB

Xander Bogaerts has shown some really good pop for an 18 y/o playing in the middle of the field (SS).

Low A, Greenville - .235/.306/.497, 12 HR in only 183 AB

Miles Head has looked really good (20 y/o)

Low A, Greenville - .338/.409/.612, 15 HR

High A, Salem - .253/.319/.387, 3 HR

All these guys put themselves on the radar this year. It's been a rough year on the pitching side, though.

Yes I did... John Sickels does the list. He's just updating people as to progress through the season. I'm not grading it on his grades, I'm making an opinion on how your prospects have been doing.

Thank you, this was the response I was looking for. You can always tell the people who don't know too much about the system when they just come in here and make one line comments that don't bring anything to the discussion table.I personally like Bogaerts and Jacobs, but not really too high on Miles Head.

Give it a rest. If your came in here to start a quality discussion about the Red Sox farm system you wouldn't have used a list from last year and started the conversation with "You had 3 good players, 2 OK players and a whole lot of stinkers".

To the list by ORS, I'd add Alex Wilson (2.93 ERA, 1.22 WHIP at AA), Sean Coyle (.248/.371/.469, 23 2B, 11 HR and good defense as a 2B at A), Will Middlebrooks (.296/.339/.511, 15 HR, recently named best offensive prospect in AA in coaches poll) and Tazawa who has pitched well since coming off injury.

Obviously a lot of our better prospects have been traded recently but we still have some interesting players.

it's not from last year... Sickels is giving his update on his list.

...from last year. A lot of those players aren't even in our farm system anymore.

Yes Expo is a top prospect. I'm not just generalizing your system to these twenty propsects either... I'm talking about it as a whole. I'm just using Sickels comments as a spring board to discussion.

He's not the only one on the list that's been traded. But given someone with as limited knowledge about our farm system as you have, I wouldn't expect you to know that. If you want a more up to date top 20 list, I would suggest Sox Prospects. They're updated regularly.

BUMP!

I wanted to post this video somewhere and this seemed to be the best place.

Watch this guy. He makes Dick Williams, Earl Weaver, and Billy Martin look like angels!

Priceless! The whole replay thing has kind of eliminated the managers going off thing.
