So, let me get this straight.....it's OK to bitch about Francona even tho' we're winning because in his case the fact that we're winning doesn't matter...but in the case of Drew we can't bitch about him because we're winning????

We've had 10+ leads in runs' date=' we could of had Ortiz on the mound and still win. Those 9 wins don't cover for his bullpen management tonight.[/quote']

For one, it's not Tito's fault the bullpen can't do their job. He's a good players manager who definitely could use some work on his bullpen management, but we'd never complain if those guys did their jobs.

I am baffled that Tito decided to blow up the game by putting Hottovy in.

and we were only 2 down... unbelievable assign the job to him. Where the hell he came from, anyway!!! dammit!!!!

No you idiot. You made a case that Francona is doing right because we won 9 straight. I responded by saying the 9 wins don't cover up for todays mistake.

You guys really ought to stop complaining, you're all hypocrites, every single one of you who was mad because of the Drew bitching, who's bitching today over the shutout, and Tito, you're hypocrites.

And that's all I got to say, I won't take part in a big fight like the last time people were pissing and moaning.

Pur yourself in Francona's shoes. If you were down 2 runs who do yo put in?

Easy on the "idiot" talk, Spanky.....be polite.....I stand corrected......Drew is great....Francona is great..the bullpen is great...the Sox are great....you are great! See you tomorrow.....and have a great evening.

14-1, 14-1, then they get shutout. Is that surprising? Besides, Wake needs 14 runs, not Lester or Beckett.

ps. 2-0 game is winnable. Aceves, not Hottietite. But that's Tito. Never brings in the right guy.

I see St Louis and Milwaukee both lost games tonite taking their starters (Garcia, Gallardo)out with a lead after 6 and 7 innings and 107, 109 pitches. The bullpen got bombed in both cases.

How many games do managers lose these days taking out starters cruising with a lead and replacing them with inferior pitchers? If I'm a starter, I'm pissed in that situation where I didn't get a win.

Any starter should be able to throw 120 strong pitches in a game. Taking a guy out earlier is horsecrap.

I don't think we can blame anyone but the batters on this one. Wakefield did his job. Sure, the bullpen let up some runs but we lost 4-0 and we average 6 runs since May and like 5 1/2 in all, so... Shields just cooled our hot bats. Tomorrow is a better day.

I'm so curious to see what additions we will have for the trade deadline.

Went to the game tonight. More cheers than boos for Crawford but the boos were loud enough to prove that the haters aren't that bright. CC wasn't offered a contract after the 2010 season ended, he was offered a handshake and a "best of luck". If he signed for a less expensive contract they would have boo him for that too. Lame.

I know this is a silly question but... is there any chance Lackey gets moved to the bullpen? Wakefield has been very solid as a starter so far.

Zero chance of that. They would rather trade him instead.

Wake is inconsistent, and has looked at times like he's exactly what we thought he was to start the season, some guy who needs to retire and not be put into games. He's 44 years old, I don't think he's got it anymore, I surely don't find his 5 inning 5 run performance very acceptable for a "very solid starter".

If we bring/rush Miller into the rotation, what happens to Millwood? His last 2 AAA starts have been very strong.

What about his stuff?

Miller's run of strong starts is a little longer, and his stuff is probably miles better. The reports about Millwood's stuff when he started the year on a MiLB contract for the Yankees weren't good. Given his age/injury history, I see no reason to expect that's changed.

I mean, when Lackey/Matsuzaka were busy soiling themselves at the start of the year, Brandon Duckworth was pitching well in Pawtucket, but I don't think you would have wanted him up with the Sox, because he has the stuff of a career AAA pitcher, which is what it sounds like Millwood has now. At some point, the good stuff on the resume, the stuff from years ago, gets wiped away as the talent fades. I think that needs to be taken into consideration with Millwood.

It's a question of whether one guy is ready and the other guy is done. I hope they make the right choice. I was just wondering whether Millwood also had an opt out clause and when that would activate.

Got what, exactly? He's exactly the same pitcher as he was when he entered the league. In the last ten years, exactly how is this year any different than any other? Its not like he's lost speed on his 60 MPH trick pitch. Its not like it has lost any movement. His hip and defensive mobility is much better than it was last year. Besides that, he is who he is, and who he always has been. Whether or not we like who he always has been... that is the question.

Hell, why are you complaining? His only truly terrible start this year was against your twins

I heard that Millwood stuff has significantly improved since he was with the Yankees. 81-82 MPH fastball with them... 88-89 with us. Anyone have a confirmation on this?

I heard the same report, but i don't have a link. He was a pretty reliable starter. It would be foolish to lose him just to rush a "project" to the majors. I don't expect that Miller will be able to hit the ground running in the rotation.

Long term, it would probably be more foolish to lose Miller if his improvement is real.

Cots doesn't indicate an opt out on Millwood's MiLB contract.

How long do you keep a guy on the 25 man roster in the bigs if he isn't ready? Unfortuantely, they are boxed in. It's either promote him or lose him. If teams out their are salivating over him, I'd call the Mets and ask for Reyes in return.

Fixed.

Look. Scutaro and Lowrie have combined to hit .276/.332/.411. Is Reyes a better option? Sure. But he's going to cost more because 1. He's going to be a Type A or B FA, 2. There are way more suitors for his services, and 3. The Mets may re-sign him. Beltran 1. Won't bring a compensation pick, 2. Isn't in as high of demand as a solid hitting, great defensive SS, and 3. won't be resigned by the Mets.

So a package of Miller + Reddick would probably even do the job and get the Mets to eat a good bit of his salary. But for Reyes, you're going to have to spend a whole lot more. Not to mention the fact that the hole in RF is much bigger than the hole at SS.

Ellsbury

Pedroia

Gonzalez

Youkilis

Ortiz

Beltran

Crawford

Lowrie/Scut

Salty/Tek

Wow.
