Baseball plays significantly more games than football. Divisional foes play eachother 18 times in a year' date='(not sure how AL West/NL Central play against eachother) , 4-8 games against league foes, and 0-6 games against teams outside of their league. Playing more games against teams close-by cuts out significant amount of travel(and dealing with time zone differences for the players/fans), creates rivalries, and determines playoff teams.[/quote']

Thanks for the explaination. I thought it was something to do with the travel distances, but wasn't aware exactly how the schedule lined up.

What I don't get is that if they have 15 teams in each league, that would mean that some one would be off or playing interleague everyday.

Yeah, but 1/15 of 162 equals 11ish games-- not a number of games significantly greater than the 18 teams usually play. For some reason, people commenting about interleague play don't seem to get that.

Apparently owners and players are discussing moving a team from the National league to the American league so that each one has 15. This would mean there would almost certainly be an inter-league game on an almost daily basis instead of a few times a year like it is now. In addition they are thinking of removing divisions and giving playoff spots to the top 5 teams in each league.

What do you guys think of this? I'm intrigued but I haven't thought about the cons much. I feel like it's truer to the days when pennants were decided by whichever team had the leagues best record.

Seems like everything revolves around money these days. What ever changes are made it will be for the o'mighty buck. Its still baseball though...
