Confirmed today. He had his surgery and he will need another surgery in 8-10 weeks to remove some hardware. ESPN is trying to push a BS agenda of protecting the catcher. Seriously, they might be the biggest sports network, but they are all for the pussification of America. It's rare to see a collision, and it is rarer to see the catcher this seriously injured. It's part of the game, you deal with it

I'm guessing you weren't supportive of the NFL taking out head shots ether

Carlos Santana was taken out the same exact way last season. For any other position in baseball, I'd say suck it up, but good catchers are so rare, and have so many injuries as it is. And with baseball putting more emphasis on defense and speed after the end of the steroid era, it is only going to get worse for catchers.

And then that catcher will get ragged on for for considering his own health over the team. If Salty backed away, and didn't block the plate, how much s*** would he get?

In all fairness, some might say that until recently, Salty would help the team by getting himself injured for the year. ;)

Well, that's the nature of the game. If a guy in pads is going to block the plate with his leg, you should have the right to clear said obstruction by force. You shouldnt have to slide around him.

I heard that it is against the rules to block the plate like that, but it is never enforced. Is that true? If it is, why not just enforce it? It would do so much more good than harm.
