Sutton called up from Pawtucket

By Peter Abraham, Globe Staff

Drew Sutton is in left field taking balls off the wall from coach Ron Johnson. So, yes, he has been called up and added to the roster.

The Sox are sending Jose Iglesias back to Pawtucket to get regular playing time. Sutton can play all the infield spots. He was hitting .304 with five homers and 26 RBIs and had played games at second, third, shortstop and left.

No word yet on the corresponding move to open a spot on the 40-man roster.

UPDATE, 3:35 p.m.: Daniel Nava was DFA'd.

I posted last season that we would never see him in a Red Sox uni ever again, ... and that would be a good thing. He turned out to have a less stellar career than Morgan Burkhart, who I had likened him to.

It was a cool story that he hit the grand slam in his first AB and everything, but I also doubted he would ever stay in the MLB, it took how many injuries for him to even get a chance as a part time player?

Also, Iglesias was barely seeing anytime at all, makes sense they sent him down.

I was at the game when he hit the GS. I had realized it was the first pitch he had seen in the majors. It was a cool story. He'll always have that cool story, but he was never major leagu material, and certainly not for a franchise like the Boston Red Sox.

It was a Joe Hardy moment, and he never hit another HR. His powers were gone right after that swing.

Ehh I still think he has the ability to be a very good roleplayer, but those don't start for the Sox. Let him go find a team whose roster he might actually crack.

He will not get another 200 ABs in the majors.

Minnesota had five players as of yesterday who were hitting below .220. I think a .242 hitter with a .711 OPS atleast has a chance on a s***** team.

I stand by my statement. Maybe he catches on with someone for a week or two until someone comes off the DL, but he will not get another 200 major league ABs. He stinks and he can't play defense either.

Nava was hitting .192 with a .582 OPS at Pawtucket.
