Dice-K to DL; Aceves in Red Sox rotation

By Peter Abraham, Globe Staff

Daisuke Matsuzaka will be placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained elbow tomorrow according to Terry Fracona. Righthander Michael Bowden was recalled from AAA Pawtucket.

The new rotation:

Wednesday vs. Detroit: Clay Buchholz

Thursday vs. Detroit: Josh Beckett

Friday vs. Chicago: Jon Lester

Saturday vs. Chicago: Alfredo Aceves

Sunday vs. Chicago: Tim Wakefield

No word yet when tonight's game will be made up. Meanwhile Baltimore will pitch Zach Britton against the Yankees tomorrow. Works out well in several ways for the Sox.

The back end of the rotation is looking pretty s*****.

Im not sure this is a bad thing, I feel more comfortable with Aceves starting, then I do Dice-k. Plus Aceves doesnt piss me off with all his walks and isnt the slowest pitcher in baseball in the stretch.

And at what point, besides that amazing stretch of 10 games, did it not look s*****?

Why don't we give Andrew Miller a shot?

The more accurate description would be that it will look "shittier".

This is still to be determined, but to be honest, I am guessing that it will be better than it is right now. And it's pretty easy for Wake + Aceves to be better.

Through the past 2 rotations, DiceK + Lackey have thrown 4 games. They are 2-2 in those games, thanks to some late inning heroics. Here are the stats.

4 GS, 21 IP (5.1 IP per outing), 11.14 ERA, 2.19 WHIP.

Where's the smiley for throwing up??

I think that we should kidnap all of Dice-K's relatives in Japan' date=' and tell him that for every walk he gives up, we'll randomly kill one of them. Problem Solved.[/quote']

They tried that, remember? April 11, high strike %, 8 ER in 2 innings.

We really do need to somehow convince Pedro to join this time. He did say that he was hinting towards retirement but with this we should at least make him an offer.

Who knows how long either of them could be injured, I don't want those two replacing them the whole time.

Bringing Pedro back has a "cool" factor to it I have to admit. But I doubt he would be ready to pitch before Dice-K and Lackey return. And I don't know if Pedro wants to toil around in AAA waiting for a spot :dunno:

Agreed.

I don't want to see Pedro back in a Sox uniform unless he underwent surgery from Colon's doctor.

Dice-k may need Tommy John's.

Well, anytime you hear teams talk about "sprained" UCL's, TJS enters the back of your mind.
