This is getting a bit out of hand. I'm tired of watching Beckett pitch like an ace, Lester battle his heart out every start and Buchholz give us solid innings just to watch Dice-K and Lackey go out there and look like AA pitchers the next night. If the Sox dont get the last two spots in the rotation nailed down they are going NOWHERE! Unfortunatley I dont see any way to fix this except for Dice-K and Lackey to find there form. Wake defanitly isnt the long-term answer and there isnt a guy in the system who's ready to step up and be that 4th or 5th guy. Anybody have any ideas about fixing this major problem?

Interesting. I think I like that.

The Braves also have David Ross (we had him in 2008), but anyway he's a decent catcher who, over the past 3 years, hit .287/.385/.513 with 12 HR and 57 RBI over 121 games.

Annualized, that's production of 17 HR, 80 RBI with a .385 OBP. He's the Braves back up catcher right now. Why not swing a deal for David Ross and Derek Lowe?

And we give up who exactly?

Lester' date=' Beckett, Buchholz win and Lackey and Dice-K lose = 3/5 = .600 winning percentage = 97 wins[/quote']

Well it's actually 94 wins because we've only got 121 games left, (.600 * 121 = 73 wins + 21 wins we have), but I see your point.

Regardless, you want to be strong 1-5, not 1-3 with two prayers.

That's for Theo to decide. The Braves need a CF pretty bad as well as a future 3B or LF whenever Chipper decides to retire and they can either move Prado to 3rd or leave him in LF and pick up another 3B.

Josh Reddick has been hitting well this year, he's got a .909 OPS with 10 HR and 25 RBI in 35 games this year. Maybe that draws some interest. We've also got Yamaico Navarro who is hitting well and can take over at SS or 3B for them when Alex Gonzalez and Chipper Jones call it quits, both of which are aging.

I proposed getting Ross in the offseason. With Atlanta looking like a contending team, that may be a pricier acquisition.

I'm all for bringing Lowe back, but I don't see it happening with the amount of money on the payroll right now, as he is signed at $15M per through 2012.

If Lowe is on the market, then I can see the Yankees getting him for a C-level prospect AND the Braves picking up most of the salary. The Yankees just have a way of pulling those kinds of trades.

I'm fully convinced that between Doubront/Hill/Atchison/Aceves/Tazawa/Miller/Duckworth/Bowden hell, even Bard that we MUST have a better option in the rotation than Wakefield.

I'm not a buzzkill, it was just very convenient timing. Besides, the buzz would eventually be lost when the Yankees get him for a fraction of the price while getting Atlanta to pay most of the salary.

Anyone on the market will have to get past the Yanks first. Remember that, the sox arent the only team looking for back end help. And the Yankees farm system is loaded for bear. I sincerely hope we dont move on a lot of these has beens, but I know we will.

I disagree. The Yankees seem to have enough 4/5 types, and have a good enough farm to fill those roles moving forward. Your team is looking for 1/2/3 types, and the Red Sox don't need to waste big chips on elite, they just need depth.

I could see the Twins moving one of their pitchers, they have good depth and their season is looking as done as a season can be in the first 40 games.

And the Yankees do need another pitcher, Hughes and Nova have been underwhelming, Burnett is a question mark and Garcia and Colon are breaking out or overperforming, depending on who you ask.

Also Lackey's been having personal problems - his wife was recently diagnosed with cancer. I don't think his mind's entirely on baseball right now.

Yeah--but none of those guys has been on the roster for 20 years.
