Look at his walk numbers. I think pitchers know how dangerous he is, and are putting effort to pitch around him.

I don't think it's the thumb. He just appears to be swinging at bad pitches. Especially when there is a runner on base. This year he has come to the plate with a total of 66 runners on base and gotten 7 hits
