Post your flames and lames here. Four games in...

A - Greenville

Jacobs (1.643 OPS with 3 HR) and Brentz (1.444 OPS w/ 4 XBH - 1 HR) off to very hot starts

A+ - Salem

Nothing to report (only 2 games in)

AA - Portland

WMB with a 1.533 OPS (4 XBH w/ 1 HR). It will be nice to see him follow up on the improvement he showed last year and live up to his billing.

Rough start for Lavarnway.

Dent is looking like another Jason Place - a high draft pick that gets dropped from the system before hitting AAA.

AAA - Pawtucket

Good starts for Lars Anderson (.385/.500/.538), Iglesias, and Navarro.

Rough starts for Kalish and Reddick.

I'll make one of these for pitchers in a little bit.

I'm still intrigued by Lars. It seems like he takes a long time to get used to pitching every time he moves up a level, but eventually figures it out. That being said, he will not be given a considerable amount of time in the majors to figure things, but if he continues to produce at AAA, he could turn into a good trade chip.

A good trade chip is his ceiling with this club right now. He's not taking over 1B. Gonzalez is better at everything, still in his prime, and you figure they extend him so he'll be here for quite some time. If Anderson has a hot first half in AAA like he did in AA last year and Gonzalez has been extended, I think you'll see him moved for a good RP arm - which, invariably, they'll need at the deadline. Keep it up, kid, you need to bring back a good arm for the bully.

Brentz with another 2 hit night. He's putting together a nice little line to start the year.

Flames....

WMB with HR #2, line at .407/.429/.815.

Reddick has started hitting, line at .308/.419/.500, with 3 XBH (1 HR)...SSS, but like the walks, the missing component to his offensive game.

Brentz, line at .441/.472/.765.

Lames....

Kalish, Anderson, Salem...not many people of interest to follow in Salem other than Vitek, and he's doing nothing right now, Brandon Jacobs cooled off big time.

Brentz, ho-hum, another 2 hit night.

Reddick starting to get a little hot, and the patience is still there, 2/5 with a double and HR tonight.

Lars Anderson 3/3, with a double and walk.

Yamaico Navarro off to nice start.

This team would be well-served to have some of its higher upside prospects start to show it. Ranaudo and Brentz both come to mind. Good start so far.

Who is Tony Thomas? Acquired from Chicago in a trade for Robert Coello, he's a former star from FSU, with a rich history of whiffing in the minor leagues. The 24 y/o is doing this to start the year in Pawtucket....

.375/.500/.833 with 3 HR and 3 SB

Ineresting.

Other interesting lines....

Reddick (Pawtucket) .311/.404/.556

Navarro (Pawtucket) .357/.460/.524

Middlebrooks (Portland) .359/.375/.692

Hazelbaker (Salem) .280/.438/.720

Butler (Salem) .320/.393/.680

Brentz (Greenville) .388/.434/.612

Jacobs (Greenville) .333/.436/.689

Improving....

Lars Anderson (Pawtucket)

Boo....

Kalish (Pawtucket)

Iglesias (Pawtucket)

Lavarnway (Portland)

Salem is hot, hot, hot right now. Fifteen runs last night, ten tonight.

Hazelbaker, ho-hum, 4-4 with 2 doubles.

Kalish had to be helped off the field today during the PawSox game by a trainer holding his arm after making a diving catch.

An MRI revealed the shoulder was "significantly sprained". Rehab has already begun.

Brentz hit HR #3 last night - .354/.400/.585

Vitek has been smacking the ball around the park all week - .354/.446/.563

Reddick hit HR #3 last night - .288/.386/.542

Who knows what that means. Do they mean his AC joint was separated/sprained? Do they mean his capsule is torn? Did he tear the cuff? Is his labrum shredded? It could range from him being out a couple weeks to him eventually needing surgery and being out for the yr. A sprain is used in laymen's terms to mean nothing serious, but medically a sprain involves a tear to a ligament, and the degree of the sprain determines if it is a mild tear or a complete tear. I think the media release of "significantly sprained" is nothing to be worried about or take solace in until they update it

Then he hits #5 last night, and #6 tonight.

EDIT: Brentz with #4, and Hazelbaker with #4 tonight.

Hot starts...

A - Greenville

Brentz - .333/.386/.556 (4 HR)

Jacobs - .361/.447/.611 (3 HR)

A+ - Salem

Rodriguez - .406/.462/.813 (4 HR)

Hazelbaker - .304/.418/.607 (4 HR)

Vitek - .352/.418/.521

Wikerson - .333/.387/.741 (3 HR)

Reynoldo Rodriguez is absolutely abusing Carolina League pitching, 17 of his 26 hits have gone for extra bases. He's old for his league, so he should move up soon, like yesterday.

AA - Portland

Hassan - .429/.507/.508

Federowicz - .339/.373/.532 (2 HR)

Middlebrooks - .328/.369/.557 (2 HR0

AAA - Pawtuckett

Navarro - .318/.451/.485 (1 HR)

Thomas - .311/.404/.622 (3 HR)

Reddick - .276/.364/.618 (6 HR)

What's the news on Iglesias? Still looking lost at the plate? Kid's only 21 but he needs that bat to come around if he wants up here next season.

Right now his OPS is higher than the Sox starting LF and C, impressive huh?

Reddick, #7, oh and just for shits and giggles, #8 as well, tonight. Guy is killing it right now, 4 HR in the last three games.

WMB hit two out as well.

Last night's display of power boosts Reddick and Middlebrooks to....

.296/.376/.691

and

.354/.400/.677

respectively. Good stuff.

When Reddick gets hot, he's very hot. He hit something like .350 post all-star break last year.

Yamaico Navarro is not slowing down. Current line .320/.440/.547 in 75 at bats. Not a lot of home runs but a lot of solid contact and no small number of walks, which had been a bugbear for him.

Dude is doing everything he'd have to do statistically to be taken seriously as a SS or 3B prospect IMHO. As long as he's at least an adequate SS, I think you have to consider promoting him ahead of Iglesias if we need an infielder this year, considering Iglesias' own struggles. And either way he's giving himself trade value.

Navarro with 2 HR and a 2B yesterday. It's interesting to note that he has been playing in the OF lately. He's a good candidate to replace McDonald if he keeps this up, and his ability to play all over the IF makes Scutaro expendable.

Reddick has fizzled since his 2 HR game.

Navarro in the OF? Interesting. Anyone have an opinion of whether or not he has the skills to be one of those ultimate utility guys who can play pretty much anything?

Greenville is a run producing machine. Another double digit output from the offense tonight, with Brentz knocking #6 out of the park, and Miles Head hitting his....wait for it....9th HR of the young season.
