They'll still make the playoffs. But I'd really love to see them break the ice with a couple nice wins soon.

We have stretches like this all the time over a year, but I've never seen it happen for the first 6 games. Just a bit taken aback, but it hasn't shaken my convictions that this is a team that's going to wind up going into the postseason and making noise there.

Thirsty Thursday's festivities already begun bro? lol

I'm just saying Tito seems to be extra cautious in spring training, and the team (recently) has gotten off to brutal starts. 4-9 last year and 2-6 in 2009.

I would put more heat on the hitting coach. Like I said before it's a overrated move that may or may not help any. But if someone can find me the stats of teams leaving RISP from 2007 to 2011 we have to be top 3 under this guy.

They lost a lot' date=' but they did win the AL East in 2010. Toronto lost Marcum and Wells, Baltimore only won 66 games in 2010. Unless the wildcard finally leaves the east, the Rays concern me the most of those three if only from their rotation.[/quote']

Meh, whether they won in 2010 doesn't really mean anything, it means about the same as the Orioles' 66 wins last year, or just about anything from the past. I've never thought of the Rays as a "team to beat" this year, just because of how hard they were hit in the offseason.

I don't think SCM was really complaining or anything. It's far from one of those "the sky is falling, we're 0-5!!!11!1!oneone!1" posts.

Hopefully coming home will be the momentum shift they need. I predict they randomly wake up at some point this weekend with one of those 17-2 frustration-induced thrashings against the Yankees and go on to reel off 8 in a row or so. Or perhaps it's wishful thinking before my fenway trip next week.

It seems like if it's not one thing than it's another. We had a couple games with good offense and the starting pitching shat the bed. Then we get a couple quality starts and the bats go cold and/or the bullpen implodes. One everything starts clicking together, then things will go our way more often. It wouldnt hurt for Ells & the dude with the long last name to wake up either. Especially after the great spring they had.

Can't lose sight of the positives either. Lester actually had a good start in April, Papi actually has multiple home runs in April, A-Gon has been raking, Crawfish hasnt hit much but has shown what a force he can be when he gets on base. These gents will be bloody fun to watch when they get rolling.

PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- Pawtucket Red Sox pitcher Alfredo Aceves has been scratched from Thursday night’s start and it’s likely he’s been recalled by the Red Sox.

The right-hander was in the Pawtucket clubhouse this afternoon, preparing to make his start. Approximately 35 minutes before first pitch, it was announced he would not pitch and was replaced by Scott Atchison.

Aceves was one of the last players cut at the end of spring training. He appeared in five exhibition games during the spring, posting a 0-1 record with a 4.05 ERA. After spending the past three seasons with the New York Yankees, posting a 14-1 record with a 3.21 ERA in 59 games, he dealt with injuries last season and did not re-sign with the Yankees.

“So far so good,” Aceves said of his time with the Red Sox. “I’ve come from a rival organization and I was worried about it [when I signed], but after I got to spring training and met all my new teammates, it was different. These guys are awesome and I love it. I’m glad to be here and I’ll work hard.”

He signed with the Red Sox as a free agent on Feb. 9.

Matt Albers will be placed on the disabled list before Friday's series-opening game against the Yankees.

The Red Sox will turn to Alfredo Aceves in his absence. They haven't addressed the details of Albers' injury yet. A 28-year-old right-hander, Albers has made two scoreless appearances so far this season

Hopefully we get rid of Reyes soon and bring Okajima back up.

I'm happy to see Aceves on the MLB roster, I always thought he was pretty good on the Yankees.

To be fair, our pitching has been god-awful other than today. It's a team wide problem right now.

Brad Mills was the bench coach two years ago until he left to manage Houston. Demarlo Hale has been the bench coach the past two seasons. While the media has not said much about what a bench coach does in spring training, I understand they pretty much run the everyday show.

Last year, the Red Sox suffered a string of injuries which left one to wonder if their pre-season conditioning had been sufficient. Sure some of those injuries were serendipity, but a lack of conditioning surely will result in more injuries. This year, you have this horrendous start, with a lot of mental errors on the field. Not a team ready to play.

I think the front office needs to take a look at the field management.

Anything is possible with these two teams. Though I do predict that the Sox will have a random awakening at some point this weekend in the form of a frustration-induced rout of the Yankees, and then proceed to reel off about 8 wins in a row. My guess was 17-2 :P
