I doubt the thumb is "bothering him". My guess is that he's a little weak there and that is leading to his timing being off. But when you injure your hand, it changes your swing a little, it changes your power, it changes everything. It takes time to get back

I'm not worried about Crawford. Some people make the adjustment more quickly than others, and he's had the misfortune of having to face a couple tough lefties early on. IIRC, people were saying the same things about Adrian Beltre early on last year and well, we saw the end result of that.

What worries me is that Rays fans say that Crawford now is no different than he was in Tampa - except a lot richer. They welcome Hurd as his more consistent replacement.

That's a lot of sour milk BS. I lived in Orlando, knew a lot of Rays fans, and went to a good amount of games in Tampa. They loved Crawford. I even had some Rays fans try to argue that because of his speed and defense, he was as valuable a LF as Manny Ramirez when we had him. Let Fuld hit his first slump this season that drags his numbers down to where they have been historically, and we'll see how much they prefer him to Crawford then. In 4 seasons at AAA, he's a .270/.360/.400 hitter with about 6 HR and 35 SB per 600 ABs. Decent if he can reproduce that in the bigs, but nowhere near what Crawford does over a full season.
