The Swisher play gets made standing up by any self respecting RFer. There have been a couple liners that have found gloves, but he's also been living on the corners again and getting a lot of outs. He hit a rut against Detroit when he worked in the zone. Freddy needs to work on the corners to be good, he did that today. But unless we get a 6 run lead, he's a six inning pitcher. When he gets tired, the ball migrates over the plate and he gets smashed. After 6, we should just turn to our solid pen

Really not sure how I feel about Robertson in the fireman role that Joe has relegated him to. His great K-rates help in these spots' date=' but he often struggles with his command, which certainly can prove costly with little margin for error.[/quote']

I know he wants Soriano in the 8th, but I go to Sori here instead of K-Rob.

We've watched a very different game, then. He has been in the middle of the plate a lot, and has benefitted from a very wide outside corner.

As for the Swisher play, that's besides the point. It was a rocket, and he got lucky ... and it was by no means the only one.

Well that's the other annoying thing Joe does. He has assigned roles for his relievers, and there is absolutely no deviating from them.

I dont think we have watched different games, I just think you have ridiculous expectations. I think he has used the top of the zone and the pitch up out of the zone to perfection. He did hang a couple, but in hitters counts, when most hitters dont swing at breaking pitches. He did also leave a few 4 seamers over the zone to entice some swings and pop ups. I thought he did what a guy with really no shutdown stuff should do. He lived somewhat dangerously, but he has to. He made his pitches when he needed to, he got a little lucky, and he threw a pretty solid game

On most other nights, considering how hard the Royals hit the ball, Garcia probably gives up between five and six runs. But baseball is tricky like that, in small samplings.

His line tonight through six innings is very similar to his first two starts, both of which he pitched very well in. If you think he threw the ball even as close to as well tonight as he did in those starts, then we'll just have to agree to disagree.

And for what it's worth, we're not talking about expectations, but rather observations. Tonight the process didn't match the result ... that's my only point.

I didnt think he was as good as his first 2 starts' date=' mostly because he didnt get as many K's.[/quote']

You can make that case about his second start, but not this one. Tonight he had three strikeouts. In his first start he only had one.

And credit to D-Rob. He found his FB command against Getz, and he threw a couple really good curves for both Ks.

20th win on the season. For a team that hasnt even come close to their offensive stride' date=' the Yankees are doing well[/quote']

Explain how leading the AL in runs scored is not even close to their offensive stride?

No hitter above .300

Tex and ARod hitting .260

Cano now at .289 with a regression in patience

Swish hitting .212 and Posada hitting .150

Our offense has been incredibly homer happy. Without that power, we're sunk. We'll see the team BA get up to .270 and then you'll see the runs come pouring in.

So, the other things will return to norms, but they'll still keep the 300 HR pace? Everything always comes up roses, doesn't it?

Or it might be that this team is a 900 run team that is on pace for 854. But don't let stats cloud your ability to take a shot at me

They scored 859 last year, with the same roster. You are right, it's foolish of me to think they are an offense in the 850 range, and to even suggest that while they may hit for a better average, that their HR pace is unsustainable. When will I learn?

I think the Yankees offense will deteriorate over the course of the season.

This.

I think Jacko's overall point is half right. Right now, and for much of the season, the Yankees, collectively, haven't swung the bats all that well. At some point that'll improve. But at the same time, they won't sustain their current HR pace, so everything will even out.

Based on what? If anything most of the offense is slumping up to this point in terms of average.

Hosmer's HR doesn't bother me all that much. AJ can't fall behind like that, but once he does, I like the fact that he challenged him on three consecutive pitches. Just got to give the kid credit, he beat AJ.

What does bother me is that this team really makes a habit out of wasting opportunities.
