For a while, I thought this city was one of the most baseball crazy. You couldn't go anywhere without hearing about the Sox. Last year seem to be a weird year. The interest seems to be not where it once was. I think it's tied now with the Patriots.

Well at this moment i would have to say patriots because they are in the post season and its not even baseball season but overall i still believe that the Sox are the most beloved team of Boston

Well, for some reason, The Sports Hub guys like Michael Felger think that Boston/New England region is now is beloved to the Patriots.

What do you mean ratings? i also find it a lot harder to keep a fan base interested for 162 games instead of 16 i see more redsox gear then patriots for 75% of the year

I agree with WB, Patriots are the most popular team in Boston. Wikipedia seems to agree too

Long ago, Boston's most popular sport was baseball (now football)

NFL in general draws higher ratings then MLB; NFL's popularity is that it is simply a better product to watch. Football is just a great sport to watch on television while baseball is meant to be enjoyed in person.

That's a ridiculous argument though about ratings. There are 16 regular season football games, of course they're going to get better ratings.

By the same token, the Red Sox have higher total season attendance. Wouldn't that make them the more popular team?

Just anecdotal experience, last year I had two patriots post season tickets I was looking to sell and barely got face value for them. On the other hand I've never had a problem selling Red Sox tickets to pretty much any game.

The thing about the ratings isn't just the overall number. The Pats ratings keep going up while the Red Sox ratings are going down' date=' way down.[/quote']

The Pats are the best team in football and the sox missed the playoffs. Makes sense to me.

lmao, yes I bet the Red Sox ratings continue to go down this season after all the offseason moves

Yes, Thats what happened to them the last year and a half or whatever the statistics show. Ownership took a massive hit and knew they needed "star" players to draw interest and get the ratings back so they went on a spending spree.

At the moment, The Pats are number 1.

The Sox are still kings of the six state region known as New England. But within a 50 or so mile radius of Boston, the Pats have become HUGE.

There must be hard numbers to support an opinion one way or another.

Where are all the bright people that love to research this type of stuff?

I have to say the Sox are. Whenever you walk into a place in Massachusetts you can always see at least a few with Sox Gear on. Pats gear is few and far between in comparison to Sox Stuff. I know even last year i was looking forward to baseball season way before the trades happened. I love the Pats. But no Matter what the Sox are number 1 in my heart. As of right now I am counting down the days to Truck Day.

the best way to determin IMO is by the number of gear bought in both sports.

so with that being said I wonder if there's a way find out the numbers on this

I can guarantee if there were one baseball game a week there would be higher rating then pats games, jsut in my family myself my sister mom are bigger sox fans, to extended family its 7 sox 2 pats so a 10-3 in favor for sox just in my family

Oh I get it. You're one of those Pats fans who hates the Sox.

I'm defintley not one of them. I love the Sox the most out of my heart. The people on there just seem to think WEEI and Boston Globe is bias to the BoSox.

People love the Patriots in Boston. People live, die and suffer with the Red Sox. It's different. People identify with the Red Sox, remember where they were during big sox moments and collectively become enraged or elated by them. I am sorry, but in Boston, baseball is king.

I don't think that would be an accurate measurement, Red Sox sell merchandise over the period of 162 games per year. Kids always beg their parents for baseball caps and what not when they go to games.

New York and St Louis are also places where baseball owns the city.

the whole tv rating is BS IMO as well as the pats only play 16 games on every sunday where most people are off work and also as there's only 16 games the fans watch all of them . where is baseball there's 162 and most people miss a few games here and there
