I was just looking up salaries and the picks to make sure that I didn't confuse them. Anyway:

Exman Delmon Young OF 2.6 m

Dipre Brian Wilson RP 4.4375 m

RSFFL wants Kelly Johnson 2B 2.35m

and SoxfanForsyth wants Josh Beckett SP 12m

Now a700 should be up I think.

I doubt that a700 makes his pick tonight, but he'd likely make his pick early in the morning, so I'm happy that we'd be waiting on him rather than people like me who like to sleep in.

Yeah I took beckett. If he has a 2009 year, hell be well worth 12mm.

Plus I started drafting starters way too late

Yeah, I mean I wanted him, so I think it was a good pick on your part. I was just surprised that I wasn't able to get him, given that the general consensus around TS and RSN (I thought) was that Beckett was terrible and everyone hated him. Well, not terrible, but not worth the money.

Don't go by me. My Blood Alcohol level is pretty high right

Haha fair enough, although Soria and Wilson were both also selected recently. But despite the alcohol, Feliz is a very good pick. Considering his salary, he's a top three closer.

But will Feliz remain as closer?

It's the ultimate high-risk/high-reward move, because if they move him to the rotation you're left without a closer but he's a guy who has the stuff to be a top-5 starter in the league.....for 400K.

I'm not sure what I'm hoping for in that regard.

I think that is definitely a stretch. There is no doubt that his stuff is very good, but there are very few people that can throw 100 MPH as a starter. He's been heavily reliant on his fastball as a closer, and although it's possible that he makes the adjustments, he pretty much has just an amazing fastball and a good curve, and a so-so change. There are pitchers that have had much better secondary stuff than Feliz, and even they couldn't make the adjustment properly. There's no doubt that Feliz has the potential to be a great starter, but to say right now that he could be a top-5 starter in the future, seems like a stretch to me.

I would have to agree. He may have the stuff to be a top 5 starter down the road, but if the Rangers move him to the rotation this year, there is no way he goes beyond 150 innings. And that is not top 5 starter material. Besides, as a starter he could get exposed. He'd be like a rookie all over again.

I think it's a moot point, though, because I don't see them pulling what the Yankees did with Joba.

First off, i said he has the "stuff" which does not necessarily mean i'm saying he will be a top-five starter in the league, "potential" and "likelihood" are not the same thing. Context.

That being said, find me five AL pitchers with better raw stuff than Feliz. I'll wait here.

By the way, Justin Verlander has quite possibly the best stuff of any starter in the major leagues right now, and guess who has basically the same stuff as Verlander albeit he scrapped his slider when he became a relief pitcher.

Also, do you not believe Feliz could go ahead and enjoy immediate success in the league after being a reliever? In fact, i'll go out on a limb and change my "possibly" to "likely". He has the stuff, the makeup and raving reports from scouts. Calling it now......if they move him out of the bullpen he'll be one of the best pitchers in the AL while he's pitching (they would limit his innings) and i contend that only the following four pitchers will be superior to him: CC Sabathia, Jon Lester, Felix Hernandez, Justin Verlander.

Save this post so you can call me out if it doesn't happen. I usually don't go out on a limb like this for kids so young, but he's something else.

Having the "stuff" to be a top-5 pitcher means more than having just 2 electric pitchers. You said that he had the stuff to be a top-5 pitcher, I doubt that he has the right pitches to do it. If you're a starting pitcher, you won't succeed based on a fastball and curveball alone.

Furthermore, can he sustain 100 MPH of velocity and still remain healthy? There are a lot of pitchers that cannot. There are a few that can (Verlander, Josh Johnson, and Ubaldo Jimenez, off the top of my head), but of the three that are list, all of them throw their secondary pitches about 40% of the time, all three of them throw at least an average changeup (in fact, Verlander and Jimenez's changeups have very strong run values). Feliz has not shown the ability to throw an average changeup, and until he does left-handed hitters will destroy him.

Having two very good, electric pitches does not automatically make you a top-5 pitcher. He has two pitches that could very well exist in the arsenal of a top-5 pitcher, but he doesn't come close to having the stuff that a top-5 pitcher would.
