I got the chart working. If Divinity wants to make his pick (or is online) he can make his pick now, but we won't start the clock for him until 8am Monday. So we won't skip Divinity until 4pm on Monday.

So basically he can make his pick but it won't count until Monday is what your saying? What's the point of that just start it now if your going to do that.

No, that's not what I'm saying. He can make his pick NOW, but we won't start the clock AGAINST HIM until 8am Monday. Meaning that he can make his pick now. If we started the clock now, he'd have until 10:15 am to make his pick. So Divinity's clock, or 8 hour window, won't start until Monday morning, even though he can pick now. Get it now?

In other words, I'm not holding it against Divinity if he doesn't come online now and notice that we started early, so if he isn't online, he'd be skipped at the normal timeframe from when we should have started on Monday morning. However, if he's online now or comes online tonight, then we have a shot at getting a slight headstart to this thing.

Now that I think about it (thanks to Exman for the tip) can a moderator move this thread to the "General Baseball Forum" rather than the "Other Sports" section? I was used to the NFL and NBA redrafts being in the "Other Sports" section.

Question - Is this a full season thing, where we keep up with it basically during the entire season? If so - are there free agent pick ups/player releases? And is there a waiver order for the pick ups?

This is a full season thing, but the draft is locked when the season starts. So we will follow the season and do powerrankings to see who has the best team, but we don't be making changes to our teams, so you don't have to worry about making roster moves. I'd imagine that people wouldn't be penalised for injuries, but I'll check with Dipre on that. In any case, people can trade players after the draft (in order to work around the salary cap) and after that the rosters will lock.

I was discussing this with Dipre and we had a bit of a debate about a potential problem. We were discussing what would happen if/when people get injured.

I figured that we'd look at career numbers or recent season numbers in determining who has the best season. At least not counting injuries against people if the players were healthy when drafted.

Dipre proposed that we have the people pick up someone off of the "waiver wire" in the event of a significant injury. I'm personally not a fan of it because it could mean the difference between having a star player and replacing him with a player who wasn't good enough to get drafted.

Another idea is having a 40 man roster. This would protect teams from injuries, but it would also make the draft really long. I'm ok with this, and it'd also solve our "odd number of rounds" problem, but this would need to have been brought up in the event that people would still be interested in this. I'd want to make sure that we finish this thing. We've been able to finish every redraft that I've been a part of at least. That said, if we did this option, we'd have to extend the salary cap by a lot, but we'd factor that in.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the matter?

I would say for now keep it the way it has been originally planned we still got till april to figure out the whole league. I wouldnt rush to a decision right away

I don't like the waiver wire idea so I'd go with recent or career numbers. The 40 man idea isn't bad but like you said it would take longer so no.

Then what's the point of waiting out the whole year if we're just going to use career stats?

Injuries are part of the game, and should be addressed as such. Giving someone a cop-out in case of injury is unfair.

Given everything that's been said (most of it between Dipre and I on facebook) we figure that the 40 man roster seems to solve everything. It makes an even number of rounds, and it protects rosters from injury. The only issue is making sure to maintain interest in the draft. Most of us are regular members here and should stick with it regardless. I'm only worried about a few members keeping with this, but as long as we don't make this like a previous baseball redraft where people lost interest, then I think that we will be fine.

We'd also have to adjust the salary cap figure, but we will work on that and adjust accordingly. I'd like to hear from some other people as well, so they can chime in in the morning.

Divinity, don't make Dipre and I go down to Jersey and make your pick for you. If you don't make your pick by 4pm (it'll be Ytrb's turn) and I'm going to make you pick Julio Lugo.

Yes, I did realise that I broke my rule of not mentioning players that haven't been drafted, but I felt that this was an ok exception to stick it to Divinity for taking forever to pick.

I thought u would all be waiting for me to make my pick seeing as i just woke up, i've been waiting for this to start forever didnt realize people would actually use the 8 hours window. And regarding the 8 hour window, if mine is from 3 am to 11 am theres no way in hell im up, is there a time where it closes or something?

The draft doesn't close. The clock stops at midnight, meaning that people can still make their picks, but it doesn't count against their 8 hour window. For example, if your clock started at 4pm, you'd have until midnight to make your pick (or you'd be skipped and the next person could pick), but if your clock started at 4:01pm, then you'd have until 8:01am to make your pick before you could get skipped.

If people continually miss their picks, then I'm going to shorten the draft window to 6 hours. And maybe even 4 hours after that. Who knows, but it's usually Flynnatic that takes forever to make picks, not Divinity.

I'm really surprised that it's 11 and it's not my turn yet. What's going on here? Do you people have lives or something?

The draft is often like this. Granted, the first few rounds seem to be very quick. But for every day we'd get through 10-15 picks, there'd be a day where we only get 2-3 picks in. That's just how it is sometimes. I'm positive that other days will be faster, as a lot of these participants are regulars (and regular redraft players) that are usually on here. Plus, most of them know that if they aren't on here, they can send me their pick and I'll post it for them, in case they aren't online and their pick comes up. I'm confident that if Divinity doesn't make his pick by 4pm, that a bunch of picks will be made henceforth.

Talksox is also a lot more active in the evening (after school/work) so a lot more picks are made in the afternoon and evening than they are in the morning.

Well I'm going to send you my pick in case I'm not on here. I've got a full day of taking down Christmas lights and running errands. Ah the married life. I'll give 3 or 4 picks in order just in case.

I'll be here. Just message me your ideal pick and maybe 1-2 backups. I'll make your pick once it's your turn (unless your still online) and we can move that much faster. I hope more people do this in the event that they aren't online for an extended period of time.
