In these two starts, his max FB velocity was about 94. That's not 97, but it is throwing pretty hard for a lefty, definitely hard enough to get MLB hitters out if he can command the zone.

Any chance they could convert him to a RP role? What has he got to lose?

EDIT: Also, his FB average in 2009 and 2010 was 90.9, which isn't really elite. He can get to 94 but 90.9 average isn't very hard.

Does he have any options left? Are they allowed to send him to the minors or does he have to be on the ML team? If that is the case then I think trying to develop him as a RP is probable. If he can go down to the minors and they can tinker with him then why not let him try to keep starting?

A lefty who can throw that hard? Would stun me if they didn't at least try him, and it wouldn't amaze me too much if it worked.

he's been in the majors since 2006 apparently' date=' and has yet to find any semblance of success. Not worth the money.[/quote']

The guy makes less then 2M a season. He's not exactly breaking the bank.

And Wakefield is making 1.5 million, but atleast he has had success.

There's really no point in giving up on this kid. His stuff and frame are too good and his cost (Dustin Richardson) is too low.

He's a schlub, but at least he's a schlub that many have heard of due to his high overall draft pick, his size and the prominant spot he held in the college ranks (ace pitcher on a college WS team).
