Does Kalish not qualify as a prospect anymore? If he still is, how is he left off this list?

He exceeded 130ABs' date=' so he is no longer a rookie[/quote']

"If he were still a rookie, let me tell you why he wouldn't amount to anything" :D

Kind of a joke that Lavarnway didn't make the cut. Ranaudo and Cecchino haven't even played yet. What I've noticed about Baseball America is they don't like to admit they've made mistakes. What I mean by that is if they label you a star from the get-go, they're hesitant to remove you from star status. And if they underestimate you and don't label you a star from the get-go a la Lavarnway, they're hesitant to include you in their list.

Look at Lars Anderson. Number one prospect in the system coming into 2008. s*** the bed in 2009 and was then considered the number 4 prospect in the system coming into 2009. Only now has he been phased out. Same thing could apply to Kelly. Was absolutely atrocious this year, yet he's still considered the number one prospect. Another bad year, and he'll probably still be in the top 10.

Older college power bats tend to get discounted. Too many of them go the way of Aaron Bates. I still think though that as long as the Sox are convinced that he's a catcher he should be on there, even if he's more Mike Piazza than Joe Mauer.

I'd have kicked the two guys who haven't even played for the Sox system yet in favor of Vitek and Lavarnway in some order until those two have shown what they can do under live fire..

Speaking of, Piazza's an interesting comp for Lavarnway, considering relative performance at the same age -- Lavarnway's a little ahead which is interesting, and neither of them were/are great defenders ever. Food for thought.

Kelley/Rizzo/Ellsbury is what Pads will ask for if we want Gonzo.

They can ask all they want. The won't get that at the deadline, which is the most likely time he will get deal. The time for a big haul is almost passed. And it looks as though SD will keep him for at least the opening of the season. For a half year rental, they will be looking more at getting something back like the Braves did when they traded Tex to LAA. The Braves got Kotchman and a minor league prospect.

In all honesty, if that was the deal, the sox should take it. You lose a pitching prospect whose stock dropped a ton, a 1B who would be blocked anyway, and Ellsbury who they can replace with Crawford. But there is no way SD would take that deal.

I think we all are overstating Agon's trade value a bit. Look at the difference in the Tex's deals. For 1.5 seasons of Tex, Atlanta had to give up a pristine package of talent. For a half year rental of Tex, LAA hardly gave up anything. The time for a big prospect laden return for Agon has passed IMO.

Last year, SD wanted Buchholz and Ellsbury. Considering the Sox would probably be the highest bidders on A-gon anyway and could probably lock him up, this would not be unthinkable.

Why make that trade when he'll be available to sign next year. That's three players/prospects who are very close to being major leaguers and have the ability to make a large impact for pennies on the dollar

But what about 2011?!?! They need to trade everyone now!(I'm hoping the sarcasm from this comment leaks all over the screen :D)

I agree. I want Agon as bad as anyone, but it seems foolish to give up a huge package of talent for him now. When they could just wait a season and throw just $ at him. With the Yankees out of the running. I don't see anyone outbidding them for Agon's services if they really want him.

The Ells/Kalish/Kelly would most definitely be acceptable to Hoyer right now....in fact..he'd probably drive A-Gone to Fenway for his press conference. Theo will not trade for A-Gone unless he is sure that the Labrum he just had surgery on is fully healed. I think we will just buy him next year.
