Its obvious that Lee pitches game 3 but the question is ... is he pitching game 6 or 7 ?

It probably depends on whether or not game 6 is an elimination game. In which case, he'd probably throw Lee out there on game 6, and pray for rain on game 7.

It's worth noting that there's a possibility Pettitte and Hughes will be flipped. Also' date=' I'm very disappointed that they're not going with CC on short rest.[/quote']

This is now official.

Hughes in Game 2 and Pettitte in Game 3.

It is a stupid move.

I understand that they feel more comfortable pitching Hughes on the road than at home, and that they want to line Pettitte up with Lee. So there is an argument to it. But, in these situations, I think you have to go with the simplest solution, and that is lining up your best starters to pitch the most games.

Why don't they just have Burnett go against Lee? Chances are Lee will give up less runs then Pettitte.

I'd consider this as well, but they would never just forfeit a game.

The rotation that I wanted was Sabathia, Pettitte, Hughes, Sabathia, Burnett, Pettitte, Hughes.

But if they really don't want to start CC on short rest then I would go with Sabathia, Pettitte, Hughes, Burnett, Sabathia, Pettitte, Hughes.

If you don't think Cliff Lee can beat the Yankees twice while not going up against CC' date=' then i don't know what to tell you.[/quote']I don't think he will get the chance to pitch two games. That's the problem.

They want to break up the lefties and keep Hughes from the stadium. I dont have a problem with it, but if they were so adamant, they should have done it in the first round too

Yeah they want Hughes to pitch both games on the road, seeing as he gave up 20 of his 25 home runs at home. Along with wanting to match up Pettitte/Lee for Games 3/7. Plus they get to split up Lefties/Righties. I think it makes sense to me

They pitched Hughes last round at home, and it worked out just fine. Also, who cares about splitting up the lefties? If the second lefty makes his pitches, it won't matter that they faced a lefty the previous day (likewise if he doesn't make his pitches). Also, CC and Pettitte are such different pitchers, that it really just doesn't matter at all if they pitch on consecutive days.

As I said before, I see why they did it (wanting to pitch Hughes on the road and matching up Pettitte with Lee). However, I think the best solution is the simplest one, and that is to pitch your best pitchers as much as possible, which they aren't doing.

Hughes pitched really well in Texas this year and as jacko mentioned they don't want a rookie on the mound in a high pressure game 7 if it comes down to that.

Hughes pitched one inning at Texas this year.

And the odds of getting to a Game 7 are very slim. You pitch your best pitchers as much as possible, and worry about Game 7 if it gets that far. It's not like they're lining up Sergio Mitre to start a potential seventh game anyway...

Opps I meant last year, he almost threw a no-hitter against them. When he dominated the Rangers with eight shutout innings, leading the Yankees to an easy 11-1 win.

There's pros and cons to both scenarios, both of them seem valid.

Do you believe that outing last year is at all relevant to his upcoming ALCS start?

The Rangers really only have one left handed slugger in Hamilton. Otherwise' date=' Guerrero, Young, Cruz, Molina, Andrus on the right hand side. I dont have a problem with it[/quote']

Are you saying that you'd prefer Hughes over Pettitte against the Rangers?

Well, maybe. Pettitte threw like a champ last game out, but he is a lefty vs a murderers row of righties and he is coming off an injury. Hughes made a good lefty lineup look stupid. I think he can be pretty effective out of Yankee Stadium against this lineup.

I completely agree that Hughes can pitch very well against Texas. And he could certainly end up pitching better than Pettitte. But when making decisions you have to go with what you know at the time, and I see more reason to trust Pettitte than Hughes.

I look foward to this cause you know you're always right.
Don't be scared. I didn't say when he would hit the 500 foot HR off Hughes. It could be next year or the year after, but I'm thinking it could happen in the first inning of Hughes first ALCS start.

Would love to see the damn rangers win! They are so damn overconfident here in nyc. They will have to get some quality pitching from someone else besides Cliff Lee.
