Hi there, yet another lifelong Liverpool fan here and Red Sox fan thanks to some of my family that reside in the States.

Firstly I would like to thank you for your warm welcome though I quite understand how some of you might be a bit worried about your owners buying a football club in England. because of this I would like to use my first post to go through some of your worries and try to answer them.

Now, Liverpool Football Club is, as so many Reds have already said a massive global fenomenon with a vast and illustrious history both on and off the pitch. It's safe to say that we have had our ups and downs but one thing has always stuck out more than anything else. Through thick and thin we stick together and even when the chips are down we never give up. The "Shankley" mentality is in us all. people admire us for it, others (most notebly Man Utd and Everton fans) hate us for it but the bottom line is that we've never really cared what anyone says about us because we are one massive family that many have tried to destroy but it only makes us stronger.

I know from reading and watching baseball that the Red Sox have the same mentality as us and this union can only make both supporters and the bond now between us stronger.

I have noticed from reading various threads on a few forums that the main concern is about money and will NESV divert any Red Sox cash to help their new "baby". Well the short answer is no, they don't have to. Why? Well here are a few reasons.

1) Due to the takeover by NESV we are now in profit, and a lot of it. Not including sponsorship this is reported to be about 40m pounds a year. Then you have our main club sponsors Standard Chartered so add another 20million pounds a year. These are the major moneymakers so expect our annual turnover at present to be around 70m pounds.

2) The new ground. I hear the fears loud and clear but again no need.

We will be having a new stadium despite Henry being coy about it which was to be expected. It is part of the deal, to revamp Anfield (not really an option) or to build a new stadium. Because NESV will be running LFC as a UK based company they will be entitled for grants to build it due to the regeneration project of the Anfield area (which all depends on the stadium being built) as well as putting in their own cash. When H&G opened Kop Cayman they lost out on any grants as they were an international company (well done Hicks, another greed induced own goal there!) or financial help from European companies eager to get involved. In other words sponsorship. There will be companies queuing at the door to work with NESV and John W Henry due to their track records in business and sponsorship dealings so far plus it's Liverpool Football Club, one of the biggest names in world sport. Then after the stadium is built you will have an extra 20,000 people paying around 800pounds each per year for every home Premier League match so this doesn't even include away or cup matches, buying merchandise, food, drink, match programmes etc. This is not including a possible massive fee (estimated to be worth ?240m, ironically enough!) for the naming rights of the new stadium. Also remember that we already own the land for the new ground.

Liverpool City Council will block any move to upgrade Anfield Road, they have already said sas much last week.

3) We haven't tapped into the Far Eastern market at all yet, something both NESV and Standard Chartered will be doing together. We are losing out on an estimated 30m pounds a year because of this, something that H&G seemed to refuse to do even though clubs such as Man Utd and Chelsea have benefitted hugely from it.

4) Liverpool Football Club will be able to sustain itself without the need to bleed any company of assets. Because of this and the fact that NESV have an impecable financial record any loans will bear the minimum APR unlike with our previous owners who were high risk. Nor will any debts be placed against the club or any other NESV company. This is in the contract of the sale.

5) Keith Eldelman. This is the man who overlooked the building of Arsenal FC's new ground. He did it on time and well within budget before staying on for two years. In that time they made record profits before he was asked to step aside. A costly move as they have not seen the same level of profits since. Rumours are that he will either be our new chairman or employed to overlook our new stadium. He was also present at all of the meetings between the Liverpool board and NESV.

The one thing I have read time and time again is "but that's what Hicks and Gillett could have done but they didn't". True, but they didn't have very successful sporting franchises either, in fact they have nearly destroyed three sporting institutions by pure greed and a lust for power. The truth is if NESV and John W Henry are good to their word then they will acheive the above.

Anyway more importantly for today the local derby. For you Red Sox fans that don't know Everton FC's ground is less than a mile from our ground and in fact Anfield used to belong to Everton FC until 1892, the year we were formed. So..... C'MON LIVERPOOL, STUFF THE BLUENOSES!!!!

Just wanna second everything Jez said - the similarities between the two cities and sets of fans makes it like this was always meant to be. Imagine the yankies being based a mile accross a park from the Red Sox. Thats what we have with the blue sh*te so lets hope we rag them all over the pitch tomorrow YNWA

Too right mate.

I should be in bed as my bro managed to get us tickets for the match later but sod it, he's driving so I'll have a nap on the way there!

Ah not until about 10ish. It's only just over an hour from here anyway but we like to get there early.

We're both season ticket holders so more than used to the journey.

Aye it's his turn to drive for a change so I'll just have a nap on the way.

Just realised what the time is haha. Always the same, I was wide awake before I looked at the clock.

Goodnight/day folks, I'll be back after the match.

Lets hope we can kickstart our season.

If we dont, it will be Roy's ass that will be getting kicked. All the way back to Fulham.

I'm no fan of Roy either, but maybe he should be given at least a season?

We don't want to be a club that sacks a manager every season like Real, do we?

Not many top class managers to pick from nowadays anyway, so we should look at the table in May, but if we are not top 4, then I agree that Roy has to say byebye. :)

If we were in the top half of the league, I would agree with giving him a season to turn things round, sadly we aint. If we are still in the bottom ten come Xmas, then it has to be an early bath for Roy. I personally think he is out of his depth and treading water. :thumbdown

So who in your opinion should replace him? Apart from Kenny

That's a no brainer mate, I personally want to see Rafa re instated as Gaffer. He has unfinished business at Anfield. I hate the way he was stabbed in the back and its a shame he wasn't given the chance to show just what he could do with decent owners backing him.

Well we can live in hope, we never really thought we were going to see the back of Hicks so soon, so anything could happen. I just hope that the new owners give Rafa the benefit of an interview to let them know a bit about recent history and what he had planned for the club. The way Rafa was hounded out of Anfield will for me always be a source of shame and a stain on the club for years to come. Hicks and Gillette have a lot to answer for. They brought nothing but sham on our great club.

I disagree, I was glad to see the back of him. Maybe he would have done better with different owners, but I doubt it. The man was digging a grave for himself once Houllier's team was largely replaced. He'd invariably be spouting off and touting himself for a continental job before we had a big game. His "facts" outburst was ridiculous and embarrassing, he should have won the title and then had a dig if he wan't to be that childish, not in the middle of our season. His man-management was obviously suspect and the handling of Alonso/Barry was disgraceful. He also wasted a fortune on a lot of rubbish. Let's not get drawn into silly "net" figures put forward by his paid sycophant on the club's site, even the mancs probably have a decent "net" figure in Rafa's timescale, and Rafa inherited a side that won the champs league beating some very good sides along the way, despite some rather dodgy players, so he was hardly starting from nothing.

He had his chance, spent almost a quarter of a billion pounds, but came up short and left us with a terrible squad. Had he not put out squad players for filler teams, he may well have even won the league while Chelsea were rebuilding, and the mancs lost their way a little. I think he got too wrapped up in himself and lost the plot. Had he kept to his early years ideas, and not try to find ways to be clever, it could have been different. But then after losing his right hand man, maybe it wasn't Rafa after all?

Hodgson is clearly worse though! BBC site says the doddery old fool hasn't won away in 21 attempts. I guess they mean the league, but still, that's terrible! Let's hope he ends that run today. Phweeeeep, we've just kicked off!

Just got back and oh goodness me, how to come crashng down to earth with a massive bump.

Well played Everton, they thoroughly deserved it.

A message to Roy. If you think we were "unlucky" and that we "played well" then you're obviously in denial, trying to protect the players or clueless. Personally I am beginning to think he is all three.

Taking Cole off when Maxi had done sod all for most of the match left a lot of us completely bewildered and leaving the substitutions until the 70th minute, what the hell?

He's tried to play these tactics in almost every match so far, hasn't he got the message yet? IT DOESN'T WORK!

Spot on mate...

I would of though at half time he would of brought on Jovanovic for Maxi because he was already booked and had a poor game. I think Jovanovic should be starting regularly he for me what I have seen of him so far wants to makes things happen when he gets the ball.

Roy should be sacked. NESV want a winner, Roy's not and will never be a winner. He continues to use the same tactics as he did at Fulham, despite having much better technically gifted players. He's brought in crap, konchesky and Poulsen. Can't get the players motivated and plays long balls into the cornors. Then comes out with BS in public saying "We had key players missing, like Poulsen" and "I'm satisfied, we should've won and were the better team"

You'd better avoid the BBC interview. The fool thinks we were unlucky and controlled the game. Henry should get rid of him asap. Install Dalglish as caretaker and go from there. If we continue with Hodgson, we will lose our decent players and be relegated. The man is clueless, well and truly out of his depth. He has 4 players in world cup final sides, yet plays like a non-league team trying not to get hammered in a plum cup-tie. I've never seen a Liverpool manager so bad. Even Souness wasn't this bad, at least he injured our players in crazy training 13 mile runs, so we always had a weak set of players available. What's Hodgson's excuse? He looked utterly bewildered today, and appeared to be taking advice from Sammy oh-s***-no-idea Lee.

Same clueless tactics, same pathetic "defend and hoof" formations, same awful performance, and same lack of points as a result. He's a closet manc!
