Hello, my name is Brian Irvine and I'm conducting some research for an article on behalf of Liverpool FC website thisisanfield.com.

As I'm sure you well know Mr. Henry has taken step to secure ownership of our club. Due to our current owners being the cancer they are it's understandable that our fans are apprehensive to say the least about the prospect of new owners without knowing more about them as sports fans rather than businessmen.

The problem with our current owners was that despite their lies and broken promises, they didn't understand what the club means to the man on the street. Subsequently they suffered a well documented backlash in doing so.

My question to you Red Sox fans is; how highly do you rate Mr. Henry and his associates in their day-to-day ownership of your own beloved team? Are things indefinitely better on ALL fronts since? Does he respect your history and sporting traditions.

Please add anything else you feel might be appropriate, good or bad.

Thank you very much in advance for you cooperation in advance,

Brian Irvine

(Mods: Please could you leave this as a separate thread to the other LFC Takeover one. Cheers)

Yes I seen that but much of it is made up of the story as it developed and discussion as it progressed. I'd like to use this thread just to get statements from fans rather than make it a discussion. Cheers.

Boilerplate responce to all Henry questions:

He's largely hands-off, but keeps a presence in the front office and holds his people to a high standard.

He wants to make money from his investments but by building the best team he can and recouping his high expenses at the gate with high ticket prices and a cohesive media and merchandising strategy -- in other words, he believes in "if you build it, and it's good, they will come" and "you get what you pay for" from both his own and the fans' perspective.

He's not obliged to go into debt to pay for every little thing, so there will be some signs of his commitment to pay for a quality product almost immediately. They were improving Fenway almost the moment the sale was closed, I imagine it'll be the same at Anfield.

Also he doesn't rape towns looking for stadium deals. Every improvement he's made to Fenway has been out of pocket. When there was a proposed stadium, the proposal was to pay for it out of private investment, and not via the good taxpayers of the city of Boston or the state of Massachusetts. He's all but unique among owners in the States for not doing this.

Also he knows how to respect the history of a historic club. A little too much IMHO as I'm a staunch proponent of replacing Fenway with something better designed to accomodate a modern American fan (and his modern American fanny) but I do understand the arguments of the nostalgics, and they're arguments Henry respects. If Anfield isn't a dump, he's more likely to try to run with it than replace it and use its history as an asset to drum up support like he did with old Fenway. Heck, Fenway WAS a dump, even if it was a dump with a lot of history, and he STILL did it that way.

Finally, I've never known the man to promise something to the fans of his team and then break his word. There's a financial value in integrity that serves to strengthen your relationship with your cash cow (IE the fans). Henry understands THAT too, far better than Hicks ever did.

So they will buy Liverpool yet they couldnt give Teixeira a big contract. They need to get Cliff Lee next year no matter the price.

Again, grow up. This team isn't going to FA its way out of its difficulties. Other teams have this nasty habit of keeping their players.

Oh grow up. They offered Teixeira more money than he wound up taking to sign with NYY. THe man made his choice.

That is a LIE. The sox did NOT offer more money. Remember the negotiations, the sox offered 7yr 150 million and the Yankees beat it

Correct.

The Sox were blindsided in this deal not knowing the Yankees were even genuinely interested.

Greetings Red Sox fans from Norwegian Liverpool-supporter (working as a foreign correspondent in Bangkok).

You should rejoice over this news. Liverpool is a global brand and the attention the Red Sox will get as a spin off will be tremendous. Consider yourself getting an early christmas present.

Next Liverpool game is 09.30 am Boston-time on Sunday. Don?t be surprised if you see hundreds of Liverpool supporters with Red Sox scarfs in support and joy over the new owner.

To tell you something about Liverpools global fan base: In Norway, a country of 4,7 million, the Liverpool Supporters Club Norway has 35.000 paying members.

When Liverpool played an off season game against Oslo team V?lerenga August 5th 2008 in Oslo, Norway, 20.000 of the 25.377 attendance were dressed in red.

Here?s a bar in Oslo before the game: (sorry, not allowed to post links yet)

Last year, Liverpool played an off season game in Bangkok in July against the Thailand national team. I was there, along with 55.000 thai supporters - almost all of them in Liverpool Shirts. Look at the amazing pictures here (some sexy thai ladies in there...) (sorry, not allowed to post links yet)

The Thais did not know how to sing You?ll never walk alone...though, instead you sould look up YNWA on youtube.

Best regards and thumbs up for a wonderful future to Liverpool and Red Sox

Martin :-)

PS: I have to call Roland, the Boston-guy who married my little sister, and congratulate him!

Baseball doesn't do scarves, at least not as a formal sanctioned gear. We rather do caps or replica jerseys. Remember, this is a summer sport, scarves would be an odd choice on that basis if you had to wear them in 30C weather.

This is your standard issue fan recognition device, it's what most folks who are Sox fans wear when they're in a situation where they're allowed to wear a hat. I have a red one with a navy B, those are OK too. Pink ones are frowned on.

Would welcome seeing some Boston caps at Anfield though, definitely. Anything that grows the brand. Don't underestimate the appeal of the Sox though. This is in many ways a marriage of equals. Both teams meaning as much in their spheres as the other.

Dojji, you sound like a top fella. I like your opinions. I have a Navy Sox cap with the hanging sox on the front and the 'B' on the back both in red, amongst other caps! Do you go the game much?

Sadly I've been out of work for over 3 years so I have no chance whatsoever to go to Fenway. My part of Maine (right on that little "bump" or "nose") hasn't had an actual economy in over 30 years so jobs are real hard to come by. Even when I was working, I'm built like a yeti and the seats do not agree with me. They were built for people as they were in 1912 or so, when the stadium was designed, and I'm half again as tall and three times as heavy as the average man was in 1912.
