Anti-Fantasy Draft and Discussion Thread

But it's not fair to the owner that drafted them since they weren't injured at the time of the draft. In my opinion' date=' there is a huge difference between drafting a player that's already injured (ie Bob Sanders), or drafting Tom Brady and then (a few weeks later) having him tear his ACL and being out for a year.[/quote']

That's true, but it kind of falls in line with the nature of football. It might be a good reason to expand the draft in order to include selecting more backups.

I agree with this. One of the most important things in football is having great special teams and backups.

The only negative is that people may very well lose interest at some point.

I'm not sure how much more expansive we could make this. I mean are we really going to draft full 53 man rosters?

Well, right now there isn't even a column for a backup QB. Obviously that should be included.

How far past that we want to go should be voted on I guess.

My point is, let's say that when it comes to the voting, that one matchup is my team vs. Kilo's team. Obviously, a big part of the matchup will be Manning vs. Brady, both of which were our first round picks. Now, at the time we drafted them, they were in good health. Now, let's say that Brady tears his ACL again and is out for a year+. I don't think that it'd be fair to screw Kilo's team over because of something that happened after he was drafted.

I think that if we were to add stuff like that, that we'd have to start the draft over again. I'm sure that some people might have drafted a bit differently if they knew they had to have 2 QB's. I don't think we should change much or else we'd have to start over. My opinion, is that we should continue with the current format and mark the players health as they are when they are drafted. So there IS a difference between drafting a player that's ALREADY injured, vs. one that becomes injured after they are drafted. This is an injury prone sport, so I don't think that teams should be penalised if a player gets injured if they were healthy at the time of the draft.

I really don't think anyone would have drafted differently if they had known they needed to draft backups. Why would they? Everyone is going to draft their starters before drafting their backups.

Now, at most positions, injuries can be overcome by good backups and a good scheme. So if we draft backups, I really don't think it's too big of a deal.

As for the example you provided, I agree, that's something that a decent backup might not be able to overcome. When it comes to QBs, I don't know if their is a perfect solution. Even if you say that we should count their health at the time they were selected, it's going to be hard to eliminate that bias come evaluation time.

My compromise is that we draft two backups of your choice. I don't think we should have backups at all, but the point about injuries is a good one. I don't want this to drag on and have to do full 53 man rosters, so my proposal is two backups at whatever position you'd like.

That's fair. I think QB has to be one of them. After that, I think we should just have an open spot where people can draft whichever position they want.

Ironically' date=' I was deciding between Flacco and Manning. I figured it was the right time to pick one since there really is no one that I was enamored with right now.[/quote']

Really? To me Manning wins that one easy.

Damn...I was hoping for Flacco, he's going to be a top 10 QB in 3 years, I'll just draft a QB in the last round in that case

Normally, that'd be a good idea, but some people wanted to add back up QB's to the draft table, which would mean that each team would need 2 QB's, so it wouldn't be wise to wait until the last round at that point.

Well that sucks even more...

My passing game is going to be a joke

Probably, but you still have (Fumbles) All Day Peterson, and some of the best linebackers around. You just chose to shore up on other positions while QB's were getting drafted. A lot of it was out of your hands anyway since 8 QB's were taken in the first round.
