I think this is Paps last season here.

Im not saying we should get rid of him, but I think Bard will/has surpass him for the closers role and Pap wont accept a MR/Setup role.

....that or we role the dice and hope this year is a fluke, but u have to think that Bard is chomping at the bit right now.

Ortiz isn't having a terrible year. He has 27 home runs and 84 RBI. McDonald has performed well above what I would have expected from a career minor leaguer. Hall has made the most of limited playing time. Cameron has been injured and has barely played at all.

So sure, let's dump them all and play Beltre at all nine fielding postitions.

Considering the average age of the team and lack of performance on trhe parts of others, i forsee a major overhaul of the team this winter. Theo can't stand pat with what we have.

I dont think he has much of a choice with the amount of FA's coming off the books this winter. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Papelbon has had his worst season and his highest blown save total (7). Bard has emerged and had a breakout year and yet he has 6 blown saves. That's how good Papelbon's career has been. His worst year is 1 blown save worse than a guy that everyone is raving about.

Bard works with inherited runners 3 times as much as Papelbon. If their roles were reversed, Papelbon would have about 15BS at least.

But the season is pretty much over and this is spilled milk.

Fix the bullpen.

Bard will need his set-up guy for 2012.

The should have tried to trade him at the deadline. We where still in it then though so that could go both ways. He'll comand over ten million in Arbitration. You could fill more than one spot in the bullpen with that. Or you could just go after Soriano and weaken the Rays in the process. Keep Bard as the set up guy for another year or two. Paps does need to go. Judging by his interview after the game he doesn't seam to care.

I know all closers won't be Rivera but Pap could have covered second and maybe the game would change. I love Tito but he needs to demand more fundamentals or at least hustle from everybody.

I agree that fundamentals were lacking on this team.

Paps has been maddening to watch at times this year. And I have been tooting the "trade Paps horn" for awhile now. But I don't want them to trade him for a bucket of balls. If there is no good deal out there then keep him. I wouldn't be shocked to see him have a bounce back year. Especially since it will be his walk year.

What is everyone's opinion on Paps trade value this off season?

Isnt he contract to contract? If so, he has zero trade value....he will be a FA. If there is an option that I am forgetting about....I still dont think he has all that much value. I dont think teams are valuing closers like were 5-10 years ago. Every year it seems like some new kid is emerging as a closer. There really arent that many elite closers....and many closers dont stay closers for very long anymore. Its a dying breed...like the Fullback and exclusive Tailback in the NFL.
