I really hope they stop using the MLB backups and give the prospects regular playing time (Lars, Nava, Kalish, etc) and that also applies to the bullpen (ie, no more Atchison, etc). If we are out of it I hope they use this time to evaluate and mini-groom prospects.

I don't care about the effort, it wouldn't make any difference if the MLB backups were putting forth 150% effort, the fact is that we already know what they are. We need to use this opportunity to see where the prospects are and give them some valuable, pressure free playing time.

Most of the guys I would have wanted to see called up 4 months ago are already here as injury replacements. It's been one long September since about mid June or so.

Is there anyone in the system who generates any excitement? Is there anyone who I would tune into see? Iam not aware of any. .

Rizzo.

Lavarnway too. I dunno if he's a catcher or not, but one thing he is is a hitter, and he's danged close -- all the closer if they take the tools of ignorance away from him and make him a 1B/DH. As a hitter alone he's ready sometime next year.

Rizzo.

I wouldn't mind seeing him.

Iglesias would be nice to see. I think it's also a good time to maybe show case Reddick to possibly up his value for this off season. Same goes for Doubront.

Iglesias would allow Scutaro to start to get whatever done to his neck so he can be healthy next year, and the team might call him up to help make up for the at bats he missed this year with his injury. I could just as easily see the team airing out Yamaico Navarro too. Either way, Scutaro should see rather little time the rest of the year if we're in full next-year mode. Not only is he hurt, but we have 3 other guys we need to give a look at that position.

Well, the callups need to be on the 40 man, and you need to use caution before you add someone to the 40 man. Remember, the Rule V is in December and every yr, there are guys who need to be protected. Just 2 yrs ago, the Yankees didnt protect Nova and lost him for spring training to the Padres. Glad they didnt make the same mistake this yr. And, this yr, the Yankees lost a good looking reliever in Kanekoa Texeira to the M's who subsequently moved him to the Royals. He looks like he could be a good piece too. Every decision has a reaction, so one needs to be cautious when calling kids up.

Right now, the sox have plenty of guys on their 40 man. I would expect Bowden, Richardson, Wagner, Iglesias, and Reddick to be called up.

Then you have to look at guys who will need to be protected for 2011. Lars Anderson, Luis Exposito, Jason Rice, and a few lesser guys. So, it might be beneficial to add Lars now and bring him up. But for Rizzo, you'd be adding a player before they need to be protected

Jacko can probably tell us, but I don't think it is like getting a knee scoped and doing some physiacl therapy to get ready for the upcoming season.

Depends on what they are doing to the disk. Could be anything from some cleanup/scar tissue removal to a fusion. A fusion ends his career. The other stuff is recoverable. That being said, neck and back surgeries and injuries arent as straightforward as knees, ankles, elbows, etc. A good amount of the time you fix the problem, but the pain persists.

They won't add any non 5 rule eligible. It's a waste of roster to have Rizzo added. They will also burn an option next year having Rizzo on the roster.

Lars needs to be call up as I am looking to see what he is capable of. Beside he's probably an improvement at 1B over the corpse that's rotting there now.

I didn't consider the 40 man roster with Rizzo. I would be on board to see what Lars can do though.

The kid will be so overmatched in the majors right now that he'd make Lowell look like Albert Pujols.

Right move, wrong reason. If Lowell was hitting .750 with 10 HR's he still shouldn't be batting now. Give the experience to the guys who are going to be in the system next yr.

I have no problem with Lowell playing even if his production says sit him.

No, I feel better knowing that there is a human aspect to the game.

Lowell is getting his farewell tour. It's a nice gesture by the sox' date=' although I do agree with Dojji. This extra month could be better utilized by trying to build up some trade value for Lars[/quote']It might be better to leave Lars with some mystery rather than expose him.

********. This month is for saying thanks to your 2007 WS MVP, your old school throwback player, and letting him finish with the dignity he's earned and deserves.

We'll see in a year or two how you feel when Jetesey finishes s***ing the bed.
