And I said that he is not a finished product. If one uses UZR exclusively to assess his defense, than he is at worst, sub-par. I look a little closer.

 

Ask yourself this question. How many times did I see Ellsbury make bad plays that cost the Sox runs and wins?

 

His offensive numbers have made steady progress. 2010 should have been a big year for him.

I see no reason not to expect his performance to be at least what it was in 2009 next year.

I'm old enough to remember the days of Carl Everett and Nomar and Pedro, and that's pretty much as early as my memory goes.

Having both Ellsbury and Crawford on the team is a bit of a logjam. It would be interesting to have them both, but I don't think Ellsbury would be around for more than a year.

There's no reason to dump Ells for pennues on the dollar. The sox should at least keep him until his trade value is up to what it once was. Otherwise, he's a 4thoutfielder at worst.

I was, but I think I was more in love with his speed, and what he could be. I think he is a good defender, but if we are talking about him and Crawford id stick Crawford in CF and have Ells slide there once or twice a week, if he learns to make better reads he could be a GG and definitely worthy of playing CF.
