i didn't ask you a rhetoical question' date=' i asked you if at any point i actually said that there's no need to improve the bullpen next year or if you pulled that out or your ass. when you answered my question with two questions i cut to the chase - you pulled it out of your ass[/quote']No, I actually pulled it out of your ass.:D

Add something productive.

Boston Red Sox month-by-month bullpen ERA:

April: 4.16

May: 4.21

June: 6.14

July: 3.07

August: 3.43

September: 4.53

What were the stats for the Yanks and the Rays?

Also, how many blown saves have each of the 3 teams had?

Those team has about 20 less games with save opportunity. We play like 70 games decided by 1-2 run.

So what is the plan for Alex Wilson? He sucks as a starter much like Bard. His scouting report are similar to Danny Boy, fastball ( mid 90s) and slider. Slider is his put away pitch. Could be an in-house solution of relievers. Let him try out relieving in spring training.

Thanks. Great link. Very revealing that only 2 teams (KC and the Orioles) had pens with worse ERA's than the Red Sox 2010. There is no sugar-coating that. One team (the O's) has a .404 winning % and the other (KC) is fighting for last place in the central with a .413 winning %. The Indian and the Mariners have better pens.

your ass' date=' my ass. wherever it came from, it reaked of ass[/quote']

That's why I asked the questions-- so the matter could be cleared up and you could put it back in your ass.

i don't think anyone disagrees that our bullpen was bad. i'm sure it will be addressed in the offseason

But you disagree that if we had the Yankees bullpen this season that we would be fighting for a playoff berth?

that depends on how liberally you define "fighting for a playoff berth". but if we had a bullpen the caliber of the yankees this year, i beyond a doubt think that we would still be in third place

if you look at the war values of rivera, chamberlain, robertson, wood, logan, albaladejo, melancon, aceves, marte, park and gaudin, they add up to 3 wins not 7

Does Kerry Wood get an consideration for the BP this offseason?

i'm sure the front office will look at him but there's a lot of quality bullpen arms out there this offseason so i think it will come down to his asking price compared to the rest of the market

So a700, you want the bullpen to be fixed, unless the solution comes with the price of getting rid of Papelbon? :dunno:

I can't, for the life of me, figure out why you still cling to his days of glory. Face it, he sucks now.

if we can't find a team to take on his salary, i'd non-tender him

I never said that. I'd part with anyone to make the team better. Have you seen the bag of suck that we run out there that is not named Papelbon and Bard? I look and see 5 open spots in next years bullpen. If Papelbon is traded, the FO will have to fill 6 spots. That's a very tall order to replace your entire bullpen except for the closer. I'd keep him for one more season and let him go all out in his walk year. Maybe he bounces back. Also, I don't think the Sox can get a lot of value for him in a trade after this season.

How come no one wanted the Sox to pursue Wood during this season?

Price, probably. Although, somehow, the Yankees made it work. Strange how that happened.

He had issues early in the season. It wasn't until he went to the Yankees that Wood started dominating.

Actually he isn't so much dominating as getting lucky. The only stat that's changed other than ERA for this guy is HR/9, which is now unsustainably low, and H/9, which is lower than his walk rate and that will also correct. He's still walking more than a batter every other inning, that *will* catch up with him over a season.

you're right dojji. he's throwing really well right now, but he i doubt he could throw this well over the entire course of a season or stay this lucky. if we sign him, there's a good chance he repeats this year and spends most of the year on the dl

i think i'd stick with the safter guys like scott downs
