This article claims we're more interested in Werth than Dejesus (fanfeedr.com/mlb/2010/07/22/red-sox-notes-werth-dejesus-snyder) which is the first I've heard about that, but I think that's good news. I'd even trade jacoby over for werth and a prospect, I'm really tired of his s*** and I think werth has unlimited potential that could especially be tapped into by Fenway. And also, lets cut this catcher crap. we have much more important issues other than getting a mediocre catcher replacement.

Werth is on a 1yr deal and could be a free agent next season. Do you really want to move a guy who has been very productive through his career and is under control for 3 more seasons for a half season of a guy who just started being a good player?
Posted
Werth didn't just start being a good player, he's put up very promising numbers for years, they've just been overshadowed by the lineup he's in. And Jacoby is an awkward player who just slaps it and runs like hell. His bat has in no way progressed, his steals will go down (just like crawfords), and his attitude is terrible. It's a miracle that Buchholz recovered from his god complex to work hard enough to be a good pitcher again, but it was mostly because he struggled so much for 2 years. Jacoby still to this day thinks he's the best player in the bigs, even though anybody paying attention realizes he gets terrible contact and isn't as prolific on the bases as he thinks. Werth will likely have a >.850 OPS and steal 20 bases on a yearly basis if we sign him to a deal after the season, which we easily could afford considering how low his trade value is now.

Jacoby isn't going anywhere. His value is very low right now because of the injury, and he's the kind of player that you generally don't trade-- but if you do trade him, you do it when his value is very high.

The Phillies want to get the most they can for Werth, and trade him out for someone like Roy Oswalt, because after Halladay and maybe Hamels, they don't have anyone to rely on in their rotation. So, I honestly think Werth is a good target because the Phillies are desperate enough, while there really is no good reason to trade a guy like Dejesus.

Man, if a player gets injured he is in serious trouble with the fans, eh?

Jacoby is chapping my ass by not showing up to be with this teammates, but I like a lot of others, see him as a major contributor and spark plug at the top of the lineup. I think his best years are ahead of him, and that his bat will improve... Obviously there are those that forgot how fun it is to watch this guy play. Hitting, running, great D... or maybe I am just not remembering correctly.

I like Werth more that DeJesus, who I don't feel is the kind of guy that is in the lineup on a championship team. I think that Werth would be brought in to be more of a replacement for Drew. Especially if we give up anything to get him, I think he needs to be kept around.

I hope we do something before we are too far out of it.

I'm sorry, but I can't let this go.

You think these guys have a "god complex" and that Ellsbury "thinks he's the best player in the league".... do you know these guys or something? Have you ever spoken to either one of them? Who has the god complex, Mr. Judgy McJudgerson?

Neither. The cost will be too high for either player. I've said it before, the Sox won't be bringing in any big names this deadline. They can't offer what other teams are looking for, high impact ML ready(or close to it) players.

Look for the to ride it out and maybe make a few minor moves, maybe a couple waiver wire deals.

Watch their interviews, and they're completely upfront about it. Ellsbury is one step away from referring to himself in the third person he's so cocky. And Buchholz used to be the same way, and when he stopped was also when he became realistic about his ability and worked on his weaknesses --> now is a brilliant pitcher. I dont feel like I'm being unfair or bold to accuse certain young, hot shot players of hubris when they clearly demonstrate it and other players call them out for it.

and I know some girls who partied with Clay a few times when he first hit the bigs, and they say he was about as rock star as you could possibly imagine another person being when it came to the way he thought of himself and treated people, especially girls

I take neither of these guys unless they can pitch, and they can't. I feel like calling Theo and saying, "It's the bullpen stupid."

So-- The Sox get a good hitter that will be a free agent at year's end... by sacrificing a good hitter that will be a free agent at year's end? How does that help anyone?

For the Phils, it allows them to move Polanco to 2b while Utley is out and it allows Domonic Brown to come up in the OF. For the sox, it allows them flexibility at 1b by moving Youkilis to 3b. But it would need to come along with another deal. Highly doubt AdGon gets moved, but maybe Fielder?

The Nats arent gonna re-sign him. Dunn wants to stay, but he won't get the offer he's looking for. He'll get a 4yr deal on the open market and the Nats will probably want to go 2 yrs with him. He's the only real guarantee when it comes to power, though

Beltre for Werth is interesting. I agree with Jacko that it would have to be part of some other deal to really make any sense. Fielder seem like a long shot, but could be a possibility. Any deal for Fielder starts with Casey Kelly. If the Sox some how manage to add a combo of Werth+ Fielder/Dunn things could get very interesting.

Not sure I see it all lining up in the end, but it is an interesting topic.

It is definitely interesting. I think this plan opens the sox up in a world of directions.

First, Beltre was a goner after the season regardless. Getting and retaining Werth allows the sox to move Ellsbury to CF with Cameron depending on who is healthy. It also frees up the sox to go out and get Chris Ianetta. The point here being that VMart, when he returns can go to 1b, which would extend his career and possibly keep him in Boston past this yr. I think this not only works, I think this move could be a great one.

And maybe they've secretly been pumping Mike Lowell with steroids, and is ready to hit 30 home runs this season. Trading Beltre for Werth seems like too much imagination at this point.
