I know it's crazy early but I won't have internet access until late Tuesday night.

Lackey v. Shields

 I was just going to post a reminder to you. Good job!

I don't like the pitching matchup the next two nights...

Lackey will go 6 plus, give up 10 hits and five runs-- a typical outing for him. We'll need the bullpen to go three plus innings the day before Dice-K pitches.

If ever we needed these two "bulldogs" to step up, it is now.

Shields has been inconsistent lately. He won Tampa a game in a 1IP relief appearance last week, but besides that he has lost his last six starts.

Would be big to sweep this 2 gamer here and start to put some distance between us and TB.

You know, I'm really not THAT worried about the Rays any more. Despite half of our team being on the DL, I think we're still going to finish higher than TB. They're a good team, but I like our chances better.

the rays have been in a freefall lately and despite the injuries we've dealth with all year we've been decisively better than any other team in baseball since our poor start. hopefully we can take advantage of the rays now because they could get hot again

From the Globe:

State of the Sox: State of emergency is more like it. The Sox are 46-31 and only two games out of first. But their second baseman (Dustin Pedroia), left fielder (Jacoby Ellsbury), Opening Day starter (Josh Beckett) and catcher (Victor Martinez) are either on the disabled list or will be put there today. Still, they have won two straight and nine of the last 12.

Going well: The Sox are 42-22 since April 20 and 27-11 since May 18.

Not going so well: The Rays have lost 8 of 11 and 19 of their last 31. They are hitting .240 and averaging 4.3 runs over those 31 games.

Rays redux: The Sox are 3-4 against the Rays this season, losing four games at Fenway in April and winning three games at Tropicana Field in May. The teams have each scored 28 runs in the series. ... The Sox are 15-15 against teams in the division.

No Lack of wins lately: John Lackey is 4-0 with a 4.15 ERA in his last six starts. But the Red Sox are only 8-7 in the games that he has started this season.

Struggling Shields: James Shields is 0-6 with a 7.12 ERA in his last six starts.

Marco's the man: Scutaro has hit safely in 20 of his last 23 games at 34 of 105 (.324) with 11 extra-base hits, 17 runs scored and 15 RBIs. The Sox are 15-8 in those games. Scutaro has a 3.8 UZR, second among all shortstops in baseball.

The ups and downs: Daniel Nava's first 10 games: 13 of 34 (.382), six runs scored, eight extra-base hits, 10 RBIs, .447 OB. Nava's last four games: 2 of 17 (.118), three runs scored, no extra-base hits, no RBIs, .211 OBP.

.

Because he f***ing allowed 5-6 runs every game and the bullpen has to pitch lights out to win.

He's pitched 15 games so far. He's gone 6 or more innings in all but two of his starts. And he's only allowed more than 4 ER four times all season. Not everyone is going to have an ERA in the 2's in the AL East.

if lackey could step up while we're dealing with this injuries, it would be huge. like remmy said, we'll do just fine if our starters pitch well, we don't need to run out the best offense in baseball every game to win

this umpire's done a hell of a job calling balls and strikes. there were a couple of borderline calls which many umpires just give to the pitcher even though they're balls but this umpire's called a pretty textbook strike zone

Sox are making Shields work. He looks good though. Working fast today and mixing his pitches.

Lackey's given up a couple of hits but his pitch count is low. Would love to see the "bulldog" reemerge here today and give us 7-8 innings.

Luckily that was a ground rule double. Crawford would have had 3 easy.

"Watching" on the internet radio broadcast, so I'll take your word for it.

It feels like this team has been off forever, it's weird to see baseball again. Or maybe its just been a busy few days for me.

cameron must be feeling better. he's played in 6 of the last 7 games and appears to be running just fine in the outfield

Dude, don't jinx it.

I'll call Selig to see if he can call your boss to give you a day off too.

Shields threw well last time out too, just gave up a couple of long balls that hurt him. Looks like he's worked out his issues.

great rebound by lackey! when he gave up the weak single, allowed the runner to steal second, gave up the infield single and went 2-0 on bartlett i thought the rays would score but he dropped in two nasty curves and kept his fastball down and away
